I don't consider myself much of a Bears fan anymore. I bet in 5 years I don't know almost anybody on the team.

If/when they have a good season you will be right back.

I don't think so. I don't have the time and don't care to make the time for it. Hockey has replaced football. Maybe 10 years from now.

I'm not to this extreme, but my interest in the NFL has been drastically reduced. The Bears being awful does not help, but it's also the NFL as a whole. The game has gotten worse...too complicated and too much dead space. I follow the Bears, but often multi-task with the game on. Doesn't mean I'm not a fan....Bears are bad and I invest less, but would never move on to another team.

I agree with wdelany72. I will always be a Bear fan and if the Bears are to win another Super Bowl it will be one of my sports highlights, but I don't like the NFL as it is right now.

I, like many people, probably look more fondly sports as I remembered them as a youth. I liked the NFL when they actually had a fullback that would run, catch and block (like Matt Suhey or Tom Rathman). When teams lined up in the I-formation or split back formation and the fullback might actually run with the ball. Or when completing 60% of passes was considered an accomplishment and not a minimum requirement. When teams had elite backs like a Payton, Dickerson, Dorsett, Allen, etc.

Now teams facing third and one line up in the shotgun with 4 wide receivers and sometimes with no back. Quarterbacks put up video game numbers and a guy like Matt Forte (who I like BTW) catch over 100 passes yet many of the receptions seem hollow. I hate the spread and really dislike where the game is headed.

My beef is more about how they've made defense very complex and difficult. Pass interference calls are always a high likelihood and that's just lame. What constitutes a catch v. a non-catch is ridiculous. Roughing the passer...roughing the kicker....on and on.

It's just not that enjoyable. Then you have the players trying make it into professional wrestling. it's just a big turnoff.

I still watch, but I'm nowhere near the investment level I once had.

Some Sox fans are fed up and are saying they're giving up. They don't want to support their team any more. They're done. They join many Cubs fans from 2010 thru 2014, and Hawks fans from well many from the mid 90s straight thru the 2007 season opener.
I was one of them. After being at a total shit storm of a Hawks game in 2002 I swore off the team until the old man died. When he did us that favor in 2007 I began watching games again. Hell... i was finally able to watch games again.
Hawks fans actually booed Wirtz's moment of silence during his tribute before the game. That's cold as hell.

But the question is... does giving up for a season or a decade until the team puts forth a winning effort make you a fair weather fan? Are you not a diehard unless you spend your time and or money on a team that sucks? Or does a real fan send a message to the team by not renewing their season tickets or by helping to leave bare spots in the upper deck?

Have the White Sox ever given up on their fans? White Flag trades..moving to St. Petersburg threat......John Allen Don Gutteridge. The answer my friend is oh yes

Speaking from experience, I can say don't ever give up on your team(s).

I was one of those Hawks fans who gradually "gave up" and stopped caring about 10 years ago.

I "went back" when the old man passed and Rocky began the sweeping changes. He really got my attention when McDonough came over from The Cubs. Everybody knew what he did for the North Siders and I thought if he could do half that much for The Blackhawks, we really may have something here. Fast forward to today and we are all in obvious awe of the tremendous success.

My point is, being a true fan of any team is like a marriage. There are good days and bad days but you stick with them through thick and thin. Then, when they finally win it all you won't get those skeptical looks from others when you say that you have always been a fan.

I care less about all sports now that I am older than most of the players. I use to be fully invested in the White Sox, Bulls, and Hawks when I was younger. Now, I only really pay close attention to the Packers and Illini football. The long and meaningless regular seasons of hockey, basketball, and baseball just got too draining and annoying after while. I'd only watch any of those teams now if they were in the playoffs. It's why I like football more. Every game is critical.

That's just crazy.

Not really. I think Ozzie was a good manager and I'll bet if he managed the current team, they would be .500 or better. He got the best out of a lot of players.
