2 outs, 2 strikes in the 9th, and douche leans in to a pitch to ruin a perfect game.

Pirates were down 6-0.
Tabata actually had some previous success against Sherzer.
Just try and hit the fucking ball.
Hope he has a nice elbow contusion for his effort.

So, does Tabata play tomorrow? He probably better be wearing some armor.

Isn't there a rule about having to try to get out of the way of an errent pitch?

I have never understood these things. So a guy should just lay down and give the guy a perfect game?

You play the game. If you want a perfect game then don't get the ball close enough to a guy to hit him.

Perfect games should be special, not something that a guy has to change his game to give to someone

I'm no old school baseball lifer or anything, but I was watching it live, and was pissed.
Still a no hit complete game, and I guess Sherzer can cry himself to sleep on a pile of cash tonight.

If there was no perfect game or no-hitter on the line, but everything else is the same, you think he's still taking one for the team?

why wouldn't he? Don't you want your players getting on base and attempting to win the game?

I have no problem with it. Both teams are playing the game. I'm sure Scherzer blames himself, not Tabata.

On a slow curve? yes he does. Scherzer has no one to blame but himself.

I appreciate the Neanderthal baseball fan response. Obviously the guy should be put in federal pound me in the ass prison for this crime against baseball. I wish it happened to Buerhle just to have witnessed Hawk's response.

put this game aside...it is a crime that a batter does not need to make an attempt to get out of the way of a pitch. Period. It should be illegal to lean into or not attempt to move out of the way of the pitch in the judgement of the umpire.

I disagree. Getting hit is part of the game. Just as pitchers have a right to pitch inside and make statement pitchers, batters have ever right to try to get on base by leaning into a pitch.

9 times out of 10 a guy gets hit accidentally. It's not a statement...it's a pitcher missing a spot. If the pitch is across the plate, for starters that should be a pitch that doesn't put a guy on base.

Get rid of the armour and they'll be less likely to take one off the arm. I've always hated seeing batters looking like Knights, Biggio comes to mind. That cocksucker looked like he was bunting the ball with his elbow. You think he would have have done that if not for the padding? And by the way, he took the same steroids as Bagwell.

Very few times is a pitch that would be a strike hitting someone. That just does not happen very much.

And Mr. Reason I do agree that they should not be allowed to be dressed in armour at the plate.

If a batter gets hit by a strike, it's a strike, that's a rule. If the batter gets hit by a ball and the ump doesn't think he did enough to get out of the way, he can call it a ball. Call the ump a douchebag, it was his decision to award it. The ump hardly ever will, just like they'll hardly ever call the stupid area play at 2nd base. That's the way baseball works.

No problem with standing your ground but leaning in with pads on is a bitch move IMO. If you have enough time to process the pitch and lean into it you should have to remain at bat. If you stand your ground you can take your base. The elbow pad bullshit should be banned though. What elbow injury really requires additional padding after its healed? Every player that has torn an ACL should show up to the plate with a fucking catchers shin pad on.

Bottom line is that the elbow pad should be banned.

Having led my conference in hit batters 2 years consecutively, this is a subject that caught my attention. The rule is, the batter must make an effort to avoid being hit by the ball. But too often the batter these days wears armor padding and turns into the pitch. If it were me, I would commit this to memory and drill Tabata in the ribs the next time I face him. The guy just didn't want to be the one in all the highlights making the final out of a perfect game.
