I was told no one ever heard a ball off the bat like Baez's.

Gotta hand it to Wood, he's been pretty good coming out of the pen tonight in an emergency situation. And it was great to see Bryant break out of his mini-slump with a 2 run shot to the opposite field.

Wood looks like he is a better reliever than starter for sure. Maybe he is more at ease in the pen. He sure is not the first guy to be better out of the pen after starting while young. Long list indeed.

bullpen has improved greatly since may. though, i think most of the guys are on pace for 120 appearances or something.

wada would be a good bullpen guy once theo/jed acquire a #4/#5 in the next month.

Great win but Grienke has been their best pitcher this year. Looking forward to tonight.

I'm surprised they didn't toss the dad for interference.

2 outs, pop fly to the first base side, was about to land between the tarp and the wall, dude in the front row was holding a baby eating from a bottle in his left arm, reaches up and one handed the ball right out of Adrian Gonzalez's glove. Called fan interference, ended the inning, but dude caught that ball with the baby and bottle in his left arm. Was kind of cool I'm sure it will be on SC tonight.

Steve Bartmann disagrees.

Notice last night the umpire originally did not rule fan interference? I always thought the play with Bartman should have been ruled interference. What if they had replay back then??? That said....I NEVER invoke the name of Steve Bartman without mentioning the million dollar shortstop, the million dollar pitcher, the million dollar manager.....Gonzalez, Prior, and Baker who all choked in their own special way.

Nice win(s) the last 2 nights. Never thought they'd get both games with Kershaw & Grenke (sp?) going.

Bartman could have been called either way. Personally, I don't think the ball was in the field of play, but you'd like to think a guy who is such a big fan would have his wits about him enough that he allows his own player room to try to make the catch, especially in such a high leverage situation. But if Bartman hadn't touched it, there's little doubt some other knucklehead would have.

Anyway, I went last night. That was a great baseball game. Unfortunately, both starting pitchers lacked run support.

Greinke is 0-2 in his last 9 starts. He is bad.

FWIW - The guy who caught the ball with the baby in his hand is going to be WGN 720 AM in a couple of minutes...

Are you saying 0-2 over 9 starts is good?

I'm saying Greinke is bad. Agreed? A good pitcher having a good season cannot possibly go 0-2 in 9 starts. Clearly the pitcher's fault. He needed to give up negative runs yesterday for his team to win and couldn't do it.

I'm saying he has been bad over a stretch of 9 games where he takes two losses and seven no decisions. If he's so good, what are the nine other guys who he faced, Walter Johnsons? And most of those guys were at a disadvantage since the Dodgers score more runs than all but three NL teams, and that playing half the time in a pitcher's paradise. There's a good argument to be made that they have the best offense in the league. So how good could he have been over those starts when other pitchers who I assume you believe aren't as good as Greinke shut down a superior offensive team while Greinke himself can only manage to equal them at best? It's not a good nine game sample for Greinke.

This isn't 1998. You can't expect your offense to score ten runs. The games are likely to be 3-2, 4-3, 1-0. If you're the guy catching the short end of that most of the time, you just aren't very good. Chris Sale is pitching for an historically brutal offense and he's won 2/3 of his decisions. That's good.

Zack Greinke has won better than 2/3 of his decisions.
