Yep, fast pitch or pinners every day as a kid. Ideally you had a tall school building to put the strike zone on, so foul pops wouldn't go over the wall. Making solid contact on one of those rubber balls with a wooden bat was a tremendous feeling.

Nice argument tonight at family dinner table as the sister claiming no place for kids to play.

named 2 walls, that have boxes painted within 3 blocks and 1 park, which is crowded, but space can be made.

Bottom line, I dont see these kids picking the phone up....gonna need an APP......PICKUPGAME

It used to be my job to call everyone to play. I would make 20-30 calls to get about 12 guys to show when we were in junior high. It would of been nice to send out a mass text.

Most don't have time for that. Kids are scheduled and supervised.

Sure, but do you think they're learning the same things they would be figuring shit out for themselves?

We played baseball with rubber balls or actual baseballs all day in the summer, usually rotating between the different parks in Chicago Ridge (Freedom, Tower, Menard, and Oak). Right field out. Tower Park had apartments near the outfield fence and as we got older we'd be able to hit the outside walls of the complex. Cops or some angry resident would kick us out. Whiffle ball in the streets and backyards. And running bases too but I always thought that game was dumb. We would usually play tackle football in a large open grass space next to the Our Lady of the Ridge rectory. The field was known as The Rectum. My friend broke his ankle in one of the games and we ended up getting banned for a bit. Basketball not so much as baseball or football. The hoops sucked at the parks in CR so we'd end up playing in the driveway of the 1 or 2 kids who actually had a basketball hoop.

I laugh at all of the stupid, reckless parents who let their kids play lob league (as we called it) or wiffle ball by themselves, out in the sun no less. Pure natural selection.

The chances for a concussion are too high in lob ball. I will only let my kids play goalie in ice hockey.

"Rubber coated hardball."

Damn, that phrase really takes me back to my youth.

Nice call on rubber coated. That's exactly what we called it. I hadn't heard that term in YEARS.

Getting old sucks. I tell anyone younger than I am they should avoid it.

Hey, PittMike, you can't get a quote?

WTF is this??? Ahole...
