Started one today. They finish it up in a couple of weeks. Gonna cost 865 dollars. Is that about what it should be?

I had one in my life (no,you smartasses, not a tooth) about 30 years ago.

I had to go back 3 times. My wife has a friend who had about 6-7 root canals. She likes to chew ice.

They always tell you that you need root canal surgery. It's a giant dental conspiracy. (I'm only half-joking).

I've had about 11 or 12. I don't remember what they cost.

i had a cracked tooth in the back. never felt any pain or anything, they showed me the micro fracture on the xray. i told them their camera lens was cracked, but they still sold me on a cap. i dont know, they said if it broke it would be bad so i said i dont like bad teeth and they gave me the whitesox logo on my tooth.

I've been fucking miserable since last Saturday. Wasn't able to drink or eat anything not at room temperature. Even touching the tooth with my finger hurt. Turns out the tooth cracked and already had a large filling from last year. Last year the dentist told me it was borderline, but went with the filling. What sucks is because I am gong on vacation next week, the next available date to finish this is three weeks from now. So three weeks o chewing with only one side of mouth and .

damn dude :( sorry man, that must be horrible.

im glad my dentist convinced me to get a cap. mine had a filling too, but when they did the filling years ago they drilled out too much tooth and it cracked. the crack was a micro fracture, but the dentist saw it and said if we dont cap it now it might need to be rooted later.... i spent the money and went with the cap. its been great since.. all my teeth have, she even did an amazing job cosmetically filling in chips and stains.

my suggestion is to get PLENTY of norcos. go to a clinic and force them to give them to you.

Don't pull it unless you want to fuck all your other teeth up. If you already have a crooked smile it doesn't really matter.

If a dentist recommends something for you, I highly suggest you listen to them. Don't fuck up your teeth.

Please, read it again, but more slowly.

Don't fuck up your teeth.

I say this because last year I just dropped 20 grand replacing a bunch of bad molars that I waited to take care of, when my dentist made recommendations to me to take care of them sooner. On top of you, you get fake teeth and its weird, because while you do get used to them, at first they feel strange in your mouth and second you can't feel the food on them when you eat because they don't have nerves going threw them. They look great, don't get me wrong, but if you have the option to save your teeth before going to the extreme of replacements, I would heed your dentist.

Asking for what people had to pay for a root canal is asking for advice on whether to have one?

I'm getting two crowns in a week...then follow it up with another one (or two) in 2016.

what the fuck dont you people brush? i hadnt seen the dentist in 5 years and only had one micro fracture that didnt need a crown but i got it anyway at the dentists recommendation.... and that was because a previous filling wasnt really done that well.... no cavities or anything else.

I had a root canal, which is 3 visits followed by a crown.

Started with feeling like I had something caught in my tooth so I thought I missed something when flossing, kept looking, nothing, then my whole gum line starting throbbing. I wasn't in pain, but was just very uncomfortable and didn't want to eat on that side of the mouth. After a day of this, called my dentist.

Trip 1 was him quickly identifying the issue, just tapped my teeth until I flinched, and took an x-ray. Apparently, the alternative to a root canal is loosing the tooth, but he said a root canal was needed so stage 1 was about 30-40 minutes of which he extracts the root from the tooth and patches it up. Gave me some pain pills, but didn't need them, mouth recovered pretty well.

Trip 2 was the dentist opening up the tooth, cleaning it out and then putting some temporary filling in over the hole in the tooth. That took 10 minutes.

Trip 3 was re-filling the area where the canal was removed, and re-sealing it. This took about 30 minutes.

Then I had to come back for 2 more trips. Trip 1 was getting sized for my crown. That trip include shaving down your tooth and then you come back in a few weeks to put the crown on, which only take a few minutes.

I paid over $1000 for both services out of pocket and I have dental insurance. What you find with most dental insurance that I know of is that it covers a 6 month check-up, maybe a few cavities, but that's about it. In my case, most of the root canal was covered, but the combination of the crown (which is standard as part of getting a root canal) can get expensive.

My mouth feels completely normal again (knock on wood).
