I didn't know that Larry Bird and Tom Chambers had gotten married.

I'm not surprised, I just didn't know.

As I have stated. I am okay with it. What I am not okay with is the forcing of acceptance of it. Of not allowing people to not participate in the practice. I do think it should be called something else as marriage is a mostly religious term.

I acquired my marriage license from the county, not the church.

This.

The whole damn point is that they wanted the same CIVIL, say it with me C-I-V-I-L, rights that any straight, committed couple is entitled to (survivors benefits, medical benefits, tax benefits).

My cousin is gay. He is also a practicing Catholic. He harbors no delusions that he will be able to get married in his church, but his partner and he have been in a committed relationship for over 20 years (I've been married twice in that same timeframe), and I can see no reason whatsoever that they don't deserve to have the same CIVIL rights that I have.

Keep the fucking bible out of government....this country is too damn diverse to be governed by any single religious story book.

You can make a poll say anything you want. I think a vote is more valid than a poll. Do you agree on that? Plus come on man NPR? and the post as being unbiased ,come on.

And this is where or close to where the rubber hits the road.

If you're going to take the "morality" side it doesn't make sense seeing as secular government provides the papers. "The Bible says...." isn't where you want to take this because you really can't. There is a reason your rent-a-pastor always asks for the marriage papers first...and anyways, I was tired of hearing "I have nothing against gay people but....." years ago.

Republican states always tried to ram anti-gay legislation through at the last minute in midterm elections. There is a much lower voter turnout at the midterm elections. For some reason, R's show up to the polls in much greater numbers than D's in the midterms. The 2012 election had a 62.3% turnout, and 2014 was 36.4%.

39 states allowed gay marriage before Friday's verdict. 39/50 is a majority.

All three sites had the same numbers, so I doubt they are biased. I would have cited the numbers from FOX, but I couldn't find that info there. I wonder why.

The Rupert Murdoch owned Wall Street Journal said that 59% of Americans support same sex marriage.

Voters shouldn't get to decide what rights a group of people should have.

The people they elect should decide. I may not have the freedom I have now if voters and church leaders got to decide 50 years ago.

Chus,
Out of those 39 how many of them had it imposed by Judicial fiat? Like California or Wisconsin or Illinois or shall I go on.
The reason Why we have this verdict is not because of right wing people bringing it to court from elections trying to overturn the allowing of same sex marriage but of the LGBT mafia not accepting the fact that a majority in the country had voted against them. As Gobbels said, Tell a lie long enough and the people will believe it.
As Hatcheman said Nas,BTW welcome back I wish more of our lost brethren would return, who then should make the determination?

Nas - I understand where you're coming from. I'm not sure I trust politicians to do the right thing though. Would gay marriage get through congress?

Does not figure here as there is no oppression being done, no ganging up on them? Plus, Once again this is a sates rights issue not a Federal Issue. Show me Where in the Constitution or in any of the Amendments where it gives the Federal Government Authority over Marriage? The 10th Amendment proves that this was a over stepping of the Feds on this one.

Once again moron look up the word and use it correctly. I am not fighting because of who they are I am fighting the erosion of the Constitution and what is going to come down the road because of this ruling.

I wish they could have gotten Capone for eroding the Constitution, but I settled for the tax evasion charge.

Since the sexual revolution, out-of-wedlock births, sexually transmitted diseases, teen pregnancy, and divorce have all risen considerably. Since the 60s, marriage has declined by a third and divorce has doubled. During the 1960s there were only four big STDs, now there are twenty-four. Since the sexual revolution, children living in single-parent families has tripled.

The statement that what others do doesn't effect me has no basis in any sort of objective reality.

I would say all of these things coincided with the prison industrial complex.

I would say all of these things coincided with the prison industrial complex.

They also coincided with the rise of color TV signals. Perhaps these things were caused by the increase in EMF signals bombarding the earth.
They also coincided with space travel. Odd.
And unleaded gasoline.
And dick Cavett.
And desegregation.

Finding correlation where it does not exist is a symptom of schizophrenia.

Huh? I think it is very likely that broken families is the cause for many of these things.
