Are you long the pound or the dollar? The dollar has had such a run, that I would think the pound is the better side of it. However, the Euro Zone issues and possibly higher U.S. interest rates make the dollar look attractive.

My "OTHER ONLINE GROUP' We are looking at EUR/USD Buy at current levels....HOWEVER we have not moved on it, due to this greece shit. So, we are short USD for the rest of summer...or better yet a target of 1.15-1.18 on EUR/USD. Once we get in.

In on GBP/USD at 1.5590....target 1.600

Jumped EUR/CAD at 1.3520...was solid 2 days of laying in bed....

Bottom line, cant be in any EUR deal and just set it and forget it with Greece being Greece.

And considering cant trade the USD.....Thus the EUR is the trade....and if ANY Greek resolution is made...lotsa money to be made after July 5th....

As I said originally, the dollar is overvalued, so it sounds like we are of the same mind. I like your analysis as it matches up with my thoughts. Europe is such a cluster, but it is all priced in.

By the way, you may win this way.

On Sunday Greeks will vote yes. Meaning the Greek government will fall, snap elections will be called, and a new more moderate government will be elected. Thus, the Greek problem will have a solution. You will win.

But, there may be a lot of volatility on Friday heading into an uncertain weekend. You might have gotten in cheaper on Friday afternoon, but who knows. Oil prices are also a factor in the dollar's value.

I wouldn't call it a solution...

How many times has this road been traveled? Not saying a "Yes" vote won't be the outcome but nothing gets solved unless there is an exit for Greece. Paying back debt with debt (when you can't print your own currency) doesn't work. It really doesn't work even if you can print your own currency. Even with massive structural changes they will face ongoing depression.

But, tons of cash to be made in the currency markets, you and BigFan have that exactly right. Gotta have nerves of steel, though.

This whole thing has been hilarious.

Is it true that the Canadian dollar is going to drop back down to 65 cents USD again? That's death for the NHL.

92 Cents in 2007 is the lowest it has been in the last 25 years....not going to 65

Levels right now is the highest since 2009, if it breaks higher....thats a problem for CAD as it could go to 1.60 if it breaks current levels.

The European problems are all priced in, meaning the dollar has probably hit its ceiling. I would hope the rally from what $1.40 to the Euro to $1.10 is evidence of that. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

I meant for purposes of biggie's trading position. As Jaw Breaker and I said, the mess is much larger than just Greece. Debt relief and fiscal rebalancing must occur globally. The folks that think more debt and zero interest rates are the answer, do not understand economics.

Wasn't it 85 cents this year? Isn't that why the NHL cap is so low despite the new TV money?

Do you think the Canadian dollar should continue to float against the American dollar?

All currencies should float. To do otherwise just causes hiccups like what happened with the Franc and Euro recently. If you try to prevent a currency from free floating, you encounter all sorts of problems like the black markets in Argentina and Venezuela to the boom/busts of the Hong Kong real estate market. The problems in Greece right now are partially attributed to having one currency among disparate countries where labor and money flow freely, but the domestic economies, tax rates, fiscal budgets, and market competitiveness are vastly different. Greece is undergoing a massive internal devaluation (i.e. wage and pension cuts) to boost competitiveness with places like Germany. If they had different currencies, the German version would merely appreciate relative to the Greek's, and the problems would be solved with inflation of good and services within Greece.

Ahh but I digress.

Looks like dollar is strengthening today. I still bet Friday brings a ton of volatility ahead of the Greek vote. I'll be watching closely biggie.
