I saw a blurb somewhere on Bloomberg this morning that said the market value of the MSCI Greek Index had fallen below that of Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

It's a circus over there.

The Greek people don't like to actually pay taxes, either so that's a problem.

I read with delight the stories reported in the WSJ. Ms. Kourana said, "We'll use my E600 pension for the next few days. I might even get some cherries for my grandson. He loves them."

Ok lady, get those cherries because your country is about to run out of basic necessities.

schadenfreude

Can't blame her, they have been mostly insulated from the structural problems for the last 15 or so years. All the glitz, none of the gore.

That's going to change soon.

comeon IMU, relieve the tension. let it all out. it's OK man... you don't have to fake going biking on the forest preserve trails anymore. you don't have to tell people you're studying to be the #1 tap dancer in all of schaumburg. you don't have to people that the articles have always been the best part of playboy. hell you don't even have to tell people that someday you'll grow up and play starcraft like the future honorary korean you are. just be like will.i.am and scream and shout and let it all out! we're all waiting to pat you on the back and say "we know. we always knew. why do you think your hatches were always that hot?"

It takes 80 cents to buy a Canadian dollar.

Do you think the Canadian dollar should continue to float against the American dollar?

All currencies should float. To do otherwise just causes hiccups like what happened with the Franc and Euro recently. If you try to prevent a currency from free floating, you encounter all sorts of problems like the black markets in Argentina and Venezuela to the boom/busts of the Hong Kong real estate market. The problems in Greece right now are partially attributed to having one currency among disparate countries where labor and money flow freely, but the domestic economies, tax rates, fiscal budgets, and market competitiveness are vastly different.

I understand that, and do think the Euro has gone too far. It's just seemed to me that a common currency or at least a Canadian dollar pegged to the American dollar would be the natural conclusion of NAFTA and all that (obviously we couldn't get Mexico in on it; I'm not nuts).

Here's a Michael Lewis article from a few years ago that describes most of Greece's issues. Quite breathtaking.

I didnt read the whole thing, got to the key part "NOBODY ASKED FOR A CREDIT CARD"....it's almost too simple to accuse a country of being lazy, but thats what it has come down to in Greece. Everyone has a service job, they rely upon cash payments, they like to drink all night and party, then wake up around noon...and then have the government pay them and provide great retirement benefits.

They have been idiots the past 5 years. They arrive at meetings which are designed to talk about solutions for greece....once again, this is why the meeting is taking place...and sometimes they dont have any proposals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They want to hear what others are proposing....WOW......This is why it got to where it is today.....they about to be asked to leave the Euro...for basically being idiots...

If you got some Drachmas laying around....
