There was a list of ridiculous go fund me campaigns started...I can't remember which site it was on, but everything was stupid people with no self control trying to pay for vacations and other such nonsense.

lol @ those that hate kickstarter or gofundme campaigns. even the ridiculous ones- who cares? its ridiculous that baseball players make $20mil a year. but thats what people want to give their money to, so they get it.

same with crowd funding. its been a GODSEND for the economy. i remember mark cuban arguing with someone on why the ecomony didnt suck in the 90's. it wasnt the president. it wasnt taxes. it was 100% because of investments. the internet drove the rich to invest in the poor, and thats why everyone had money.

and he is absolutely right, and thats why gofundme is awesome, because it allows people with money to share it with people who dont. if you dont like that baseball players make so much money, dont go to the games. if you dont like that people get their vacations funded on gofundme, DONT FUND THEM. otherwise, how is it ok for you to get jealous over something that doesn't effect you at all?

as to the gofundme in the op, i can see why people backlashed. she didnt do it right. if she would have skipped the whole part about 'her day' being ruined, and just simply said "we cancelled our wedding due to the circumstances, however we can not afford to schedule another smaller one without your help". i think in that context it would have been just fine.

to sit there and say 'our day was ruined' when you werent the one that got shot, yea.. i wouldnt fund that.

I just don't like that gofundme has turned into an acceptable method for begging. The few people I know who have tried crowdsource funding have almost felt entitled to getting something. That’s always irked me. perhaps they are the minority but they are younger and maybe I'm turning into a fuddy duddy at 34.

I agree that this is out of control. If it is for something legit like medical expenses for a sick child, I totally get it. We have friends who started a gofundme account, to help get a treadmill for their fat, almost obese, 12 year old. Tell his fat ass to eat an apple, and go outside and play, rather than eating junk food and playing video games all day.

alot of them seem scammy. a friend is doing a gofundme to pay for a new bike so he can bike across the US. there is NO WAY IN HELL HE COULD DO THIS PHYSICALLY. he's at 0 dollars.
