Looking like they will be playing to avoid the sweep Sunday.

Was thinking that too. If he wants to be a great power hitter then he needs to master that pitch.

Is anyone else mystified that the Cub offense has been in this much of a prolonged slump?

They see a lot of pitches and they get on base at a decent clip, but those big offensive innings are very few and far between. Fowler's struggles have really hurt as have Castro's. Russell and Soler I can't get to upset with considering this is their first full years. Baez was a long-shot to help even before the injury and Olt or Alcantara are bench pieces at best.

You could get creative with Schwarber and stick him in left but your defense will really suffer, especially if Coghlan (who's been one of our best hitters this past month) slides over to CF to take some AB's away from Dexter. What else can be done?

Sale might pitch a no hitter tomorrow. This offense is scarey bad right now.

Rather embarrassing loss today. 5 double plays, and some bad base running. Winning run gets on because of hbp, and goes around without a hit. Fowler is a waste currently. The right side is his best side, and he looked lost today. Needs to be a lot better for the 10 million he's getting. He can't be bad when you have holes in LF, 2B, and RF. Sale most likely starts a new 10K streak tomorrow. If you're going to contend, you can't lose to a team like the Sox.

I'll say Cubs 2 out of 3. Hendricks has his third consecutive good start

I brought up this scenario earlier in the year. Everyone was talking pitching and I said what if the offense goes in the tank?

I was at my mom's today, flipped the game on and heard Len say that was the 4th DP the Cubs had hit into. Flipped it right off.

At least the Cubs are winning. I'm asking myself the same question as a Sox fan. And there is little consolation...except a bit today.

Well I think P Matt and I predicted opposite series results based on standings.

I predicted in the cardinal thread the Cub would wake up the Sock offense. Today, one run was wide awake.

Like I said, these guys fucking blow.

Its been that way for years.

As Watched horses, did the cubs have any scoring chances with the early walks?

All I know is they hit into 4 DP's before I turned it off. I turned it on to see Bryant (?) thrown out at third.

Not the smartest comment of all time, but ok. Cubs are a top 10 team, and have been good all season. The Sox have been awful since day one.

Well, this isn't going to end well.

The Sock already have two runs.

The Cub will be lucky to get two hits.

Not able to watch today, thankfully. Hopefully, the "ace" can keep it under 5 runs.

Yep, reminds me of the 99 season. Cubs were a few games over .500 and got swept. They then proceeded to crap all over themselves the remainder of the season.

This team just can't get a big hit.

The Sox have several hitters that can't hit. Lester supposedly can't throw to 1st. Why doesn't anyone bunt? Does Robin only use that when it is the wrong play?

99....That's the year I was trying to think of. At least the Cubs best pitcher is going tomorrow.

One day this offense will do something well other than elevating the opposing pitchers pitch counts.

You mean 9 pitch strikeouts aren't good?

Just tuned in. Lester looking good in 6th. Retired last 13 or 14 batters and struck out the side.

Edit: Just saw Sale's K reel for the day. He looks terrific.
