I wasn't a fan of the Lester signing but I definitely expected him to he better. Hopefully he finishes strong.

Gonna drop to 4-8 today. Im sure the metrics will tell us how great he's pitching though. Maybe the worst free agent signing dollar to results- wise of the off season. At what point is it no longer "early" with half the season gone.

He sure seems unable to pitch around errors.

But outside of the first and this 7th inning with the Bryant error, he's been tough.

Wouldn't call him a bust, but a 2/3 starter, not a 1.

Mrs Lincoln also enjoyed the play outside of the assassination.

A lot of media people and fans seem to want to give Epstoyer a lot of rope on this one. Bullshit. They have whiffed so far on their 2 big pitching signings.

Right Matt. A lot of Cub fan faith in Theo BS. Lester blows and will be your albatross.

Then Lester wouldn't be here. It's possible Tanaka's arm doesn't fall off.

I heard Hawk yesterday comparing Jon Lester to Wilson Alvarez...

Lester is no Arietta, that's for sure. He's far more expensive. Price will probably join him next year in that rarified air.

He is a solid number 4-5 starter right now.

Im not obsessed with Lester's contract so it doesnt pain me to watch him pitch like others.

He's not been good so far. But anyone expecting a true Ace (Top 7 or 8 guys in baseball type) was kidding themselves. He's never been that.

He's not been as bad as the record looks, but he hasnt been good. He's streaky. A lot like Mark Buehrle.

And no, it will not be an albatross. Pitching prices are insane and keep going up.

His era this year is 1 point above his career average.

I have to disagree. The Cubs and Sox are polar opposites in terms of skill, age and experience. I guess if you say, they both are struggling, you would be correct, but reasons they are struggling are not similar at all.

Misleading stats.....doesnt show the poor efforts in a number of games during that time. Consistancy is what I would like to see. he has more than his share of games, where he isnt good to start. Miami, Detroit, LAD, Sox....

HOWEVER, Lester is still a guy who can pull out a 1 hit like performance in a playoff game....

It clearly does show the poor efforts in a number of games during that time. I left no games out. It covers every appearance from May 1st to today's date. That is how statistics work.

Many of you 'baseball fans' saw Lester have a terrible April and now he is forever a bad pitcher in those eyes.

I'm not saying Lester is having a terrible season, but all that "unlucky" stuff is just claptrap. Nobody is scoring much. Runs are at a premium. If most games you pitch in are 2-1 and you're always the guy allowing the 2, how good can you be?

It's not remarkable. And in the games he's pitched there has often been another starter who allowed less on that day. I don't call that luck. I call it getting beat.
