Sure it is. I think a loving home with gay parents could certainly be a better environment for children than a single parent home, or a "traditional" home with abusive, or neglectful parents. It depends on the parents in any of these situations. The sexual preferences of the parents are not an indicator of their parenting skills.

Maybe. I do think there is value in a male/female raising a child. I see and feel the damage in my own family and my husband is good to great for about half the week. I might be seeing and feeling the time thing but there is a very different way in the way I play, teach, and nurture than he does. I think that is more of a gender issue than a time spent issue. I see it in my own relationship with my parents.

I agree with you, Spaulding, but since every kid isn't going to be raised in a loving home with one parent of each sex, a gay couple beats many alternatives.

Yeah, that's fair but that ain't a ringing endorsement either.

There are lots of different families and couples now. Things are rough all over. I wish there was more or different support for foster families and adoptive families.

Spaulding, what are your thoughts on gay couples adopting children?

I'm a bit of a fence rider as always. Like Jorr said a gay couple beats many alternatives. I wouldn't be mad or shun a family if I knew one. I think a male/female presence or relationship is important. If I looked at my own family, of the 4 of us I think my daughter would be the only one to maybe be okay but even then... Me, my husband, and my son (speculatively) would not flourish being raised by a gay couple but I'm assuming things. My experience is limited in my ways and because of that I can't say for sure. I'll ask my aunt and uncle from California what they think in August and get back to ya.

Many of these same arguments were made against interracial weddings 40+ years ago. I know some have genuine religious concerns but I tend to believe bigotry and ignorance is the reason most people oppose same sex marriages just like it was for interracial marriages.

I was gonna post this. Good post.

The male female combo is a plus but its not THEE determining factor raising kids either.

I think this whole worry about gay parents will mostly fade away with time, like the bi-racial couples thing did.
