I want to preface this by saying I haven't witnessed any bad behavior as a result of drinking at little league games.

I have noticed this year that it seems to be very popular for parents to bring alcohol to games. The red solo cups seem to be out in full force even at noon weekend games.

I have witnessed (unfortunately), many charged moments of games through my many years of coaching. I have witnessed bad parent behavior in the past. I don't think it is a good trend to introduce alcohol into the mix. It seems unnecessary and normalizes the behavior to those that abuse alcohol. It doesn't seem to set a good example for the children. Finally, it really isn't a matter or if a drunk person will cause a problem, but when. I understand that the person who causes the problem most likely would have been a problem without alcohol but why exacerbate a situation.

I don't like this even with responsible drinking. Leave the party until after the game and go to someone's house or beyond the outfield.

I am cool with it if kids want to have a pre game pop to take the edge off.

My Dad would have a couple of beers at my little league games. So would some of the other fathers. He never got drunk as it took a lot to get my Dad drunk. He never yelled or said much of anything about the game. I don't know if you guys remember the fake Coke wraps. It was a coke wrap that you'd put around the beer can. Fooled nobody. You could totally tell it was a wrap. But my Dad did it anyway.

Anyway, I'll let him know you disapproved of his behavior, GD.

They could drive home blind drunk with a bottle of vodka and emulate Sox Amabssador of good will, Carlton Fisk....and somehow, still retain the title of 'Ambassador'

As the parents are way more high strung than the kids, its always an issue.

I think it's OK if the coach has a few, though. I loved the way he played this role, by the way.

I didn't realize drinking at little league games and grammar school football games wasn't the norm until I was an adult. There was always alcohol around our games.

My gf said when she was a kid her mom would sneak out to the car to smoke a little weed during her softball games. Don't really have to worry about stoned parents getting too disorderly.

Everybody pretty much drinks down here and I've never witnessed anyone drinking at a game. Personally, I don't think it would kill a parent to lay off the booze for a couple of hours until the game is over. Always a good idea to drink and drive when kids are going to be in the car.

I'm not a parent. If I were I wouldn't drink at the games. Just saying how it was when I was a kid. I don't remember it ever being a problem where the Dads got drunk or belligerent.

I don't deny it.

I've never been comfortable with the legacy of alcohol abuse passed down from generation to generation that I have witnessed in life.

Parents are not the same today with their level of "interest." Raise the personal stakes, add alcohol and the door to problems is opened.

The same situation exists...just much more of it...99% chance if your parent is over intense about their kid prior to age 11, they will be done with basbeall before high school.

Its an ugly thing.....if I did have a kid, I would go and hit/pitch/catch as much as possible...would even get his friends to just play with the rubber ball...

Had the discussion again this weekend....I asked 'Why cant you send out an email asking who wants to play rubber ball after school Thursday?" get 6 kids...Pitcher hand out, SS, LF, Pitcher...this concept was not accepted by the over rated youth.

The seem to have no problem finding 4 shitheads to sit on the couch and play minecraft?

The screens take precedent over everything.

I've got a buddy, he's got one young kid and he's on the road for work a lot. The other day I'm bored at work so I glance at Facebook and his wife posted a status about needing more whiskey. At 3 in the afternoon. I can understand the idea that parents aren't the same today but that's gotta be a learned behavior, right? And I think it's gotta e something similar with drinking at the kids game. There has to be some sort of "my parents did it and I turned out fine" logic going on there I would think.

My 12 year old Nephew just did this. Been going year round for the last few years and told his dad he is done.

Fuck that.
Most hobbies are expensive, but you could get a 12 year old a decent enough Fender Squire and 5W practice amp for $260.
Then they could sit in front of their computer watching guitar lessons and practicing instead of InstaSnapMinecraftMySpacebooking.

Being under-intense does not work, either, at least it didn't with my two boys. I went to the games (and yes I confess on occasion I imbibed with some of the other parents or in-laws) but I certainly never got in anyone's faces, be it my kids or the coaches. My approach was more Laissez-faire. Yet they both bailed by age 12.

Saw it for the first time this year at one of my son's tee ball games. The snack parent also brought some beer. I must admit that I found it mildly arousing when the MILFy moms were sipping from the red Solo cups all game. Not sure why. Same guy then brought an entire case of beer to our post-game end of season party which also took place in the park.
