Yeah, totally against this. Some of the umps are high school kids, like I was back in the day. I couldn't handle a sober adult that was enraged by my bad calls, last thing I would want is a drunk one.

Unless you were drinking Heineken while everybody else was drinking Miller Lite.

I coached football and baseball for about 10 years and never saw parents drinking, except when the high school football team played our arch rival Geneva in the playoffs and the tailgating (just off school property) looked like a college game.

That is asinine.

I bought our son's Rawlings Jose Canseco glove at Goodwill for 5 bucks. Got a bat bag with 5 bats and some balls for 20 off of Craigslist. Wife got his Under Armor cleats at a resale store for 8.

I know it was Kid Cairo. Still wanted to make the reference for a laugh. For Christ's sake, Spmack. I've always told you I'm one of the good ones. I don't think you all look alike. Give me some credit!!!!

Some people may want to party, some may want to make friends, and some might have had a rough day. Nobody really gets hammered at the baseball games except for a few but they always seem to be hammered. It's usually one person with a cooler and what do you do if they buy something especially for you? I get your point. I don't drink a lot in front of my kids but one or 2 isn't a bad thing, might even be good.

I drank occasionally last year at hockey games when there was a bar at the rink but that was so I didn't beat the coach with my son's stick. Mostly social - 2 drinks. A few times, more than that but people kept buying them for me. I poured a couple out.

In my defense several people have told me they like me better when I drink. I did not drink at a party on Saturday and several people seemed disappointed and I actually felt like I let people down.

My dad would also take me to the park near our house to pitch to me and hit me some fly balls and grounders. He'd bring a few beers. We had this crazy neighbor that was indignant over this. Yelled at him one time. Park was close. We walked to it. It was no big deal. But some people need to be upset.

Try picking up THAT kids bat and using it to hit grounders/flys during warm ups. The parents fly from the stands and the kid looks at you like the patrons at Le Francaise looked at Jake and Elwood

I want to preface this by saying I haven't witnessed any bad behavior as a result of drinking at little league games.

I have noticed this year that it seems to be very popular for parents to bring alcohol to games. The red solo cups seem to be out in full force even at noon weekend games.

I have witnessed (unfortunately), many charged moments of games through my many years of coaching. I have witnessed bad parent behavior in the past. I don't think it is a good trend to introduce alcohol into the mix. It seems unnecessary and normalizes the behavior to those that abuse alcohol. It doesn't seem to set a good example for the children. Finally, it really isn't a matter or if a drunk person will cause a problem, but when. I understand that the person who causes the problem most likely would have been a problem without alcohol but why exacerbate a situation.

I don't like this even with responsible drinking. Leave the party until after the game and go to someone's house or beyond the outfield.

What parks allow alcohol????? I can't think of any

Games on a Ho-Chunk nation field serve alcohol which suprised me the first time I saw it. One or two go down good when watching a tournament. Being as it is private property and private security, I didn't contemplate the consequence if one over-imbibed, but their rules were prominently posted and they served one cup at a time.

Your kids aren't watching as they are in their own world with at least one parent (or involved adult) yelling encouragement every 15 seconds.

You didn't drop the $40 for a fungo? Come on Coach. I figured you'd run the sharpest I/O in the league.

I am purely low tech in coaching. I play only with what the league supplies me and my parents passed down to me.

Paid $200 for my kids bat and he got 2 years worth of use out of it, will probably have to get him something different, but he doesn't like the full composite bats so that saves a ton of money right there.

I guess I'll have to do some research on the physics but my initial thought is that the bat makes little difference

with the little kids tossing lobs and having swing speeds that rival grandma, it probably doesn't make much of a difference. but get into the 10 yr old's and up, a high end bat vs your garage sale bombat is a world of difference. Once a kid swings hard enough to make the walls flex on a 40+mph pitch, you see a huge difference.

my best friend has 2 boys that are like 8 and 13. he's coached them since they started. He said that you get people who'll bring beers and drink out of cups but its not huge here in the quad cities to do so. but he's got AMAZING stories about parents and coaches to tell. I'm just simply amazed at times that these people function at all in society without being locked up all the time. Most of it stems from not knowing the rules and/or screaming at a jr high aged ump. what is wrong with you people.

If one particular bat gives an advantage than leagues should standardize the type of bat used so that all are on a level plane

i have a 14-year-old son who is a baseball player, and i can tell you a higher-end bat makes a great deal of difference. i have not spent more than $100 on any one bat (i have my limits), but this most recent one i bought him this spring, well, the ball just jumps off of it compared to some of his older bats. A couple of his teammates have really high-end bats that they have allowed my boy to use from time to time in practice and it is easy to tell that those bats have something the lower-end bats don't have. our league this year introduced a rule limiting bats to no more than -5 drop (weight in ounces - length in inches) that rendered a lot of kids bats illegal. luckily the bat i bought my kid was -5 and he has been able to use it. I'm not sure what the IHSA rules are for bat drop, but we will find out soon enough when he starts playing high school ball next year.

Ok, and who is going to pay for that bat if it cost $450.00?

Also, High School and College bats can be anymore than a Drop 3.

Obama.

Are you comfortable with a team having an advantage for reasons other than the quality of their players?

$450 bats, but they stopped using wood because it was too expensive to replace all those broken bats. what a joke.

Wood would be fine for little leaguers because they don't have the velocity to break the bats but when they get to 16U and 17U it becomes a problem. Most Summer and Fall league tournaments are wood bat and the bats get broken all the time. I see these kids walk up with 2 wood bats in their backpacks and think those won't last the weekend.

How much is a wood bat? $100? $150?
