Im not sure if McAdams is a bad actress or if its just a stupid role.

Farrell is decent and Vaughn has been less bad than I thought (still bad)

I think Vaughn has been fine. And I don't like his work, as a general rule.

He may be better at drama than comedy.

I just had to read the Wikipedia summaries to sorta understand what I have been watching. Almost ready to tap out of this season.

Might wanna rethink that after tonight's episode.

It's been ok. I came into this with an open mind which is more than I can say for the masses latching on expecting something that would blow their hair back
like last year. The writing hasn't been too bad, the acting has been questionable. I can't figure out the Vaughn character but when I watch him I can tell he is
trying to act and it isn't natural. I also haven't been able to connect with the Chips cop. So mechanical. No major complaints with McAdams and Farrell. I find
it to be relatively interesting and watchable. The shootout last night was a bit drawn out but interesting at least. The slimy cop that got capped I kinda had my
eye on so it was interesting to see him get greased.

You thought that was good ? I think I'm done, show is awful . Vaughn ruins every scene he's in. McAdams n Kitsch are pretty bad to boot .

One of the main problems with this season is that every aspect of it is so thoroughly joyless.

The show presents a broad spectrum of vice and hedonistic behavior, yet nobody seems to enjoy what they're doing.

Death apparently came as sweet relief for all the characters that got massacred on last night's episode.

Now all we need is for Kitsch, McAdams, and Farrell to enter into a suicide pact, and their misery will end, too.

As an aside, what the hell is going on with Vaughn's dialogue? His lines are written as though he's a creation of 1940s Hollywood, not a person living in contemporary California.

This show is awful.

I fell asleep during it but woke up to see the gunfight. That was pretty cool and I thought well done. I asked my wife what I missed, and she said, "I was awake, and I don't know."

We both agree that Vaughn as a tough guy is laughable. I tend to side with those who thinks he's terrible on this show.

i wound up just giving up after the first episode after all, even with the slight motivation to give it a second chance. i just didn't like anything about the first episode that made me want to watch more of it. judging by this thread, it looks like i'm not missing anything.

Anyone who watched even 1 episode of this season after what we learned about this incompetent writer last season is an idiot.

Haven't you guys ever heard the saying, "fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice, we won't get fooled again"???

I watched both episodes last night. I don't know what everyone is complaining about. I didn't find it remarkably bad. I thought it was no worse than average. The ultimate story line doesn't really interest me.

I like that redhead in this role. She always seems to be appropriately cast as an aging, damaged woman.

.

Sticking with these thoughts

The show presents a lot of instances where the incentive for a cop to act is a promotion. I have never known any cops to think that way? Sure, you get the occasional Huberman who didn't really want to be a cop in the first place but most of them see civil service tests as the path for promotion in my experience

One thing that bothers me. That bar that Ray is always at. Why does that girl always sing depressing songs? Always. Why? I mean are there bars like that for real? Where people want to hear nothing but depressing songs?

They Mayor set them up for the ambush at the end, obviously. He was hoping they'd kill all the cops. Didn't get the BIG 3, though.

Farrell is great. McAdams needs to get naked, and soon, as I can't take much more of staring at that Grownup Mean Girl ass in tight pants. I want to see beaver.

I think that was a show of one upsmanship...a battle for supremacy without becoming physical

Halfway through, and I am not sure what to think. I re-watched the first two episodes, which helped make sense of the various plot lines. It's worth the eight episode commitment. It's dark, disturbing, depressing. They opened up too many plot lines and characters, which causes the show to lose focus.

I'm starting to think the great acting last year carried the poor writing. This cast don't have the chops to carry it. True Detective could very well be a one hit wonder.

That part stuck out badly to me. One guy is a crime boss from Chicago and the other a drunk cop; guys like that, especially Ray, aren't dropping those words casually into a conversation. Ray just got shot, possibly set up by Frank, does anyone honestly believe he'd say he was "apoplectic" instead of "fucking pissed"? And Vaughn's delivery is just bad, no way around it. Then you take that scene and set it in the most depressing bar on earth? Just bad.

I'm sticking it out for the rest of the season but the show struggles to hold my attention for the full hour.

The action sequence paled in comparison to last season's shoot-out, and certain aspects of it were laughable the more I think about them (the exploding factory chief among them, followed closely behind the fat drunk picture-taking detective's brains being painted on the sidewalk) but gave a shot in the arm to what's been a pretty dreary show.

I think the dialogue is supposed to be an homage/parody of pulp novels, which I think helps explain Vince Vaughn's insane line readings.

The more I watch this season (which I have more or less enjoyed) the more it's becoming clear that Cary Fukanaga was the person the made season one the hit that it was.

Its absurd to think Vince Vaughn set up that shooting .. The shooter had on a birds mask ...like the guy who whacked Casper... Its the gay guy who is a new dad IMO. He's the shooter of both

I'm not saying I think that, I'm saying that after he got ambushed Ray had no reason to be clever about his wording. It was obvious he was upset with Frank but their little word of the day calendar showdown was awkward and out of place.
