A kid from our school got it from a freaking camp he went to last summer and spread it around at school for a while. So gross.

The niece of one of my friends was kicked off of her 14u softball team this week for missing a day of their tourney to attend a recital she had been practicing for.

That'd make me angry. I feel like my daughter is going to have to decide sports or no this year. She's 8! She should be doing everything!

I had my own bat when I was little. It cost $100 so kind of expensive back then. Worth it as I was too short and weak to use any one else's bat. It doesn't have to be the most expensive just the one they like.

It shouldn't make you angry. It should make you drive change. It is the parents that do this shit. Not like a government conspiracy.

While it's no gov conspiracy, I think it's more complicated than that. Options get limited, there is always somebody to take your place, programs are run to take time, it all just kinda sucks.

There are always more leagues and programs. There is nothing done at 8 years old that will have any real effect on what happens in high school. You don't have to quit every sport and drop 10k on club sports to be one of the 45 girls on the North Central Volleyball team or one of the 40 members of the Carthage baseball team. Things that could of been done simply playing on their high school team.

Either kids end up have the size and athleticism needed or they don't.

She's into dance and she doesn't want to leave where she is. She'll be in CCD and my son plays hockey and usually a PD sport so I don't think the schedule will permit it. It's like the time or intensity of everything makes you choose 1 and maybe a PD sport for each.

I was talking to one of the parents of my players at the playground one day. He clearly had a few beers before taking his son to the soccer game and then park (enough that his voice was lower)

As he sat there, half drunk, he told me how more parents need to be involved like him and I. Then he started ripping other parents including one part where he singled one dad out saying he "just sits at home getting high all day" instead of playing with his kids.

It's very interesting to me how people see alcohol vs other things.

IMO, I think it's best to avoid any sort of buzz during kids events. There are certain exceptions but for the most part that's a solid rule.

so drinking beer and playing with the kids is morally equivalent to sitting at home getting high and not playing with your kids?

And you immediately give benefit of the doubt to the drinker and take his word as gospel. Predictable.

Drinking to the point where your speech changes while driving your kid around is not really exemplary behavior. To be criticizing other parents in that state is flat out hilarious.

Also, the drinker is assuming the guy "sits at home getting high all day" because he heard he smokes. Another silly assumption. Would be like me assuming you sit and home and get drunk all day because you drink.

Oh and weed dad was at way more games than drinkin dad.

BTW, I like the drinking guy. He's a good dude for the most part. (this drunk at the park thing was the one bad thing) but its just hilarious to me how people justify their own issues while holding others to high standards.

Its just part of the larger general problem of putting down others to props one's own self up. I find that trait repugnant.

I didn't give the benefit of the doubt to anyone. I couldn't figure out what the hell point you were trying to make since you originally left out all the pertinent details!

I mentioned that he had enough to drink that his voice changed in the first post. So you have a guy drunk at a park with his kid complaining about other parenting. I thought it was obvious. Guess not.

you compared him to a guy who sits in his house smoking weed and ignoring his kids! which is worse, I dunno! but you were quick to make judgements. how was I to know you left out salient facts!

I thought the fact that i put quotes around "sits at home getting high all day" kinda highlighted that I was skeptical.

My fault

But, you still knew he was buzzed at the park with his kid. No issue there?

not sure. you did not say he was driving which is the real problem.

drinking to excess is not ideal, but ignoring your kids is a worse problem. using drugs illegally, again, a problem. drunk driving would be worse than all that though.

True. I said brought his kid to park. He was driving. Should have said that.

But no one is being ignored. That is the fictional world of a smoker in a drinker's mind.

Id guess heavy drinkers are more prone to ignore the kids than heavy smokers but just a guess.

Your post didn't come across as if it came from a high horse, like drunk dad's rant did.

Ironically, he is not a judg-ey guy usually. Very laid back. I assume it was the booze that day.

It was just a chuckle moment. Im sure you have them as well when irresponsible drinkers talk about the evil weed

I didnt have my car. Walked.

But no, I did not and probably would not have to be honest. As much as it might be the right thing to do, that would probably not go over well.

so you'd put the kids life at risk because the discussion "might not go well?"

I dont think lives were at risk. If I did, I certainly would have done something.

It's not really judgmental to say dont drink and drive with your kids. Getting a DUI with your 8 year old in the car would kinda suck.

I would think if there was noticeable speech impairment, then he was impaired.
