They are not going to contend for the post season , their season is over . They should dump Shark , Laroche and any other scrubs they can .

I been saying this all year, The Sox could be legit contenders next year with Sale, Quintana and Rodin ...gotta get Cespedes and trim the fat this year.

The natural extension of being here a year early and not being ready to compete for the World Series is that they should be sellers at the trade deadline.

It is a year early to contend for a World Series title. That will happen next season, after they add another starter. But no reason to sell this season. They will just build on and look to earn a wild card entry this season and use the experiences to their advantage next season, as the era of sustained excellence is near.

Good call, but who should they sell:

a) one of their under 25 year old key pieces;

b) their only long term contract (Lester); or

c) their only young-ish soon to be free agent (Fowler)?

I'd be fine with trading Fowler, he's probably the worst regular on the team.

I know its apostasy (not jimmy apostasy) to talk about trading Schwarber or Russell but if it would bring a bell cow pitcher or hitter in his prime (signed beyond this year) I'd do it. Schwarber is a guy who, even under a best case scenario, is going to have big holes in his game in the NL. Russell looks 2-3 years away (which is an acceptable time line for his age) when they need him now or at least tomorrow.

It's Gordon. It's probably made up. But even then, that payroll should be enough for most of the guys the Cubs should target.
