Its going to come off as trolling but it seems like this championship isn't really that revered in Chicago.

It's revered. We just don't want to go to games. LEAVE US ALONE.

Actually, the Sox do well on the weekends. They get like 28-30k. I know a lot of other teams get 40k. Still, the weekend crowds are decent for a bad team.

way past the attendance issues at this point (Even though I may take said shots), but the issue is do the Sox even have a fan base worthy of Tampa? 50% of the tickets are so cheap on gameday, that it really doesnt matter. They gave away 15% of their total attendance tickets to freebies.

So, is it really fans dont come out, or they dont exist? What is the fan base? 500K?

From the TV ratings column by Crain's Danny Ecker:

" about 35,000 households watching the Sox per game"

From the US census: The 2010 Census enumerated 308.7 million people in the United States, a 9.7 percent increase from 281.4 million in Census 2000. Of the total population in 2010, 300.8 million lived in 116.7 million households for an average of 2.58 people per household.

QUICK math: 35,000 x 2.58 =77,400 assuming that everyone in the house is a Sox fan but if you could assume that the non watching Sox fans would make up th edifferebce ..... So Biggie looks like 70K-80K is the current fan base.

Those numbers don't relate to actual game viewing. There could be 25 people watchingva game at a bar . The team is bad, people shouldn't come to the park when the team sucks.

I bet the Sox drew pretty good when they were watchable in 05.

When was the last time you went to a bar to watch a game?
How many people were there?

But for the sake of discussion 500 bars 25 people per bar watching =12,500
back to the questions...where are these bars?..... not in Wrigleyville and not in Armour Square.. not many up in the north burbs...just asking.

2007 season killed any long term buzz for team. Yes, made playoffs in '08, but nobody was believing.

Ran out of gas in '12. That was three years ago now. Who are the hopefuls on the farm system? Anybody??

Bad FA signings aside, where is the young bats?

Sale, Rodon, Abreu, Avy Garcia. Burn the rest of it down.

Quintana, Robertson, Sanchez, Melky. If they have ANY value, trade them.

Don't hang up that phone Rick!!!!

Sox have mroe than 80K fans....and I will define a fan as someone that would look to watch a Sox fan...in other words they turn on the TV with the intention of watching the game...was at a pretty big Sox fans house today and he thought today was a joke of a STUNT, felt insulted by the enormity of the weekend, instead of actually focusing on this season. This is a guy with 6 season tickets, has a semi shrine in his basement with Sox stuff and when you are making a guy like this not interested in attending something like this weekend, he feels way to much was put into this weekend of memoralizing a team from 10 years ago....

I kind of agree with BF on this one.

If the Hawks have a 10 year reunion in 4 years (and 6 and then 9  ), complete with handing out plastic rings to fans but actually doing it 4 months too early......then they should be bashed too. Did the Bulls do this for their 10th anniversary? I can't remember.

This was kind of a weird thing.....why on 7/19 vs. KC?

Speaking of the letters BF.....I don't wan't to mention how nearly twice the capacity of the cell was filled today to see a guy's # retirement ceremony displayed on the jumbotron...with no game following...with the sport being out of season.

Maybe it was the best availability for being able to get as many of those participants as they could...?

I have no beef with a 10-year reunion, but what grinds my gears is that it is all the Sox have been trading on all season. Kinda like last year being Paulies final season - that's all they had to market (other than Abroo), and they ran it into the ground. Even up until last season, the big signboard facing the Ryan proclaimed "Home of the 2005 World Series Champions"

...and they dont memoralize that season...they talk about and the players, because of the HOF players on that team...

My buddy was insulted by the emphasis they put on this weekend...part of that was them calling him a few times asking he wanted MORE tickets and trying to sell him on the weekend as something that HE HAS TO attend. Trying to sell him tickets to the chicago theatre thing, to hear Geoff Blum talk, telling him about his rings can get, the memories, etc. Once again, this is a guy who has a White Sox viewing room in his basement. 4 theatre chairs, big screen and as much Sox crap that can fit in the room.

I am not offended, I just laugh at that whole thing.

It is comprable to the Cubs bullshitting fans about Wrigleys 100th year...taking marketing focus away from the team last year.

....I too would consider those Sox fans as well. Dont need to attend games to be a fan, but I would say if they are on, choose a Sox game over "FRIENDS" ....I still think it is a dwindling number and the media presence of those representing the Sox are a huge portion of it....

Anyone listen to some Len and Lynn on WXRT? That segment alone , once a week for 10 minutes produces more good will and interest in the Cubs than everything the Sox do to generate interest.

Its the Jerry Breakfast club. These are his buddies. Coop, Hawk, Eddie....I see these guys running a PR firm soon.

Here is my Coop story again.

M&H doing a show from Vines for Cubs v Sox. I go to Starbucks for a lithium latte, walking back I stop in around 8:15 to say Hello to the boys. I am hanging out, Coop walks into the room.

The room is 2 guys working, 1 intern giving away swag, M&H and then Myself. Coop walks in...I think he waited for his walkup music. After 20 seconds when nobody came to greet him, he sat at a table.

Now, when I sat at a table both Mully and Hanley gave me a wave...just acknowledged I was there...being nobody else was....when Coop sat down, neither lifted their heads.

There was no interaction with him until he put on the headset, did his session, then walked out in his flip flops, short, Sox XXXL warmup jacket (Same thing Bosio wears ) , Sox hat and sunglasses. A very cold moment between them all.

You have to primarily blame the organization for the poor attendance numbers. Bad and other poor decisions have hurt attendance for decades. That being said we have some crappy fans. When the Sox are winning they still don't show up.

Its memorialized way more than a choked away season should be.

The 2005 White Sox team went on the most dominating playoff run in the Wild Card era, features one of the greatest RH hitters of all time, a couple of fringe HOF/HOVG candidates in Buehrle and Konerko, and you could probably make a strong argument that given their entire bodies of professional work, two pitchers in El Duque and Contreras who deserve to be in the HOF.

Oh, and they won.

Do we have so many world series championships in this town that the most recent one shouldn't be exploited?

They had a reunion to sell tickets. Teams do it all the time. Come on, every 5 years we get a endless bombardment of "what are the 85 bears up too". This was harmless
