no, she wasn't rich. they both lost their jobs in the recession. and if you're thinking about the children's books, those were written by her mother. the trust fund existed because of that book series.

the twist wasn't at the end, it was in the middle of the story. after that it is pretty clear what will happen. the satire could've been stronger at the end but overall i thought it was a hoot.

Gotcha. I thought she wrote the children books. I wasn't paying attention that closely early in the movie. They explained how her parents got in debt.

Wait, what was Amy's job before she lost it? Wrote for a magazine, right? Like him.

Amy wrote personality quizzes for Cosmo or some shit.
She was also way better looking than the student Nick was fucking, but way less psychotic.

Why was her trust fund only 1 million? You'd think the way they described the Mom's kid book success it would have been more. Much more. Plus she was an only child so didn't have to split it.

Fuck it. Who cares? I'm thinking about this too much. I still liked the plot even though the ending was weird and stupid.

I was almost like the author said "I don't know how to end this. fuck it. I have a deadline. I'll just have her kill the fruity dude and go back to the weird fucker with the Fah Q. Stick"

Watched it.

I think you all have the comparable incorrect. The comparable is To Die For starring Nicole Kidman from the 90s.

I liked the movie. I think it was subtle in showing the suggestibility of women through media today.

At the same time, there is no doubt that the women were in power throughout this film. The mother controls the father. Amy controls Nick. The detective controls the investigation. The sister controls Nick after Amy leaves. Nick's mom moves him to return home. The trashy hotel friend hashes their plot to rob Amy. However, the power is unfulfilling.

Maybe the movie is a statement about the empty goals of gender politics. I don't know. I think the creators think it was a deeper reflection than it actually was.

A brownstone in NYC is worth more than the million dollar trust fund. They could have cashed that out (or rented it for that matter) and still covered the cost on a nice home in Missouri and corner bar.

It tried to be a little too cute with how smart Amy was. Her scheme wouldn't work even for the fact you couldn't drain yourself almost dry of blood and continue all your machinations within the next few hours to escape.

That's a good analysis of it. I liked the movie as well despite the shitty ending. But you're wrong on that one part. They couldn't have cashed out the trust fund. She only got it when both her parents are dead. Or else they would have dipped into it if it was written otherwise.

I could be wrong. But I thought Amy had a bag of her own blood that she gave back to herself afterwards.

cashed out the brownstone she said she owned, not the trust fund

She was filling a pretty big container with her own blood from her arm as soon as he left to contemplate their marriage

I know she was filling that container. But I thought somehow she got a bag of her own blood and dripped it back into herself afterwards. Maybe I'm wrong. Then again, she was fairly young and healthy. The heart will work in overdrive to pump it back if you don't go too far. She was smart. Maybe she knew the breaking point. Also, she made it a slow bleed. Like when you donate blood. So the heart can give it back when it's not a massive amount of blood loss in a short time.

What the hell? It was a movie. You gotta suspend disbelief. Except not for the ending. That was too much to buy.

yes, that's a lot of what flynn's theme was. and keep in mind, the "controlling" women weren't all good people. flynn, who is a woman, has been called a "misogynist" by feminists. she actually writes more sympathetic men. especially in "dark places".

OK. I'll buy that. Glad I didn't pay to see this. I think we caught it on HBO

I'll admit, being single, I like movies like this. Maybe I would have gotten an "Amy" with the girlfriends that didn't work out. Makes me feel like I avoided it.

I shouldn't laugh. Odds are I still will.
