At first I thought race had absolutely nothing to do with this incident but after watching the video from the beginning you can tell he clearly targeted her. He gave the other kid a warning for speeding and no insurance but wrote her a ticket for changing lanes without signaling. She changed lanes like that because he did a u-turn and sped up behind her on a fairly empty road.

One of the problems is that most cops seem to be giant balls of emotion. Don't they test these people to get the proper emotional make-up for the job? Hell, they give personality tests to people who are going to be flipping burgers these days.

The cop certainly goaded her on. He could have written the dumb warning and walked away.

By the same token, she should have kept her mouth shut and taken it and moved on.

As I've said before it seems the majority of cops are the same people who were bullies in high school. Most normal people don't want to be cops. The cop situation won't ever get better. This is why when the cop asks you to put your cig out, you should keep your mouth shut and just do it. Everytime you are confronted by a cop, especially as a person of color, you are playing a game of russian roulette. So why add extra bullets to the chamber? Why is this so hard for some of the population to grasp?

White or Black, most cops lean toward the meaball factor.
I’ve been pulled over numerous times over the years. Some cops are nice, some approach you with a God-complex. In either situation, your best bet is to be humble, quiet, and respectful. Doesn’t matter if they deserve that courtesy or not.

I would say do what you have to do to stay alive when dealing with cops but at the same time try to change the situation on an institutional level (i.e. Who we choose to be cops and how much power we let them wield)

The only thing worse than a cop with a God complex is the guys that crowd around the off-duty cop at a party or get together to listen to his cop stories. They act like his tough guy bullshit will rub off on them by osmosis. I know cops,but I try to not ask them about their jobs.

I saw that. I'm not sure though. I thought they took your photo before they gave you prison clothes. I didn't know they gave you prison clothes when you were in lockup anyway.

I am confident most of us have done the same thing she did. You see a cop speeding up behind you and you get out of his way. The majority of the time you don't use your signal if the road is empty.

Fact is he targeted her when she turned the corner. He had just finished letting someone go for speeding and driving without insurance. He saw her and instantly did a u-turn and sped up behind her. Then he gets upset because she isn't kissing his ass and pulls her out the car and threatens to taser her. Tells her she is under arrest but never tells her why. After handcuffing her he decides that he should slam her head first to the ground. The fact that this officer and the black female officer still have a job is really ridiculous.

I used to feel the same way. Fact is everyone should be able to leave a traffic stop with their life and dignity. You shouldn't have to forfeit one in order to keep the other. In this case she lost both because she was annoyed with being pulled over for no valid reason.

What I don't get is why neither Bland nor her sisters/relatives (who don't appear to be penniless) were able or willing to keep her out of jail for three days by posting $500.

As for the initial arrest, they were both dbags in my opinion.

The problem is that she was arrested for assaulting a police officer; the only reason she did so is that the cop unnecessarily escalated the situation. Apparently the arrest was lawful, but the policing leading to the arrest exemplifies poor professional conduct.

Okay. Did the assault happen before he told her she was under arrest or after? I saw him open her door and try to pull her out but I didn't see her kick him. I believe that is what he said she did.
