That proves how much better a manager Maddon is than Renteria? Also, if anyone knows turgid prose it's Lil Danny

here's one for you.... my "baseball uncle"--- the one who does something like 75-90 games/season between wrigley/comiskey/miller in his newfound retirement years--- referred to renteria as "rent-a-manager" all throughout last season. "he's horrible jimmy" prefaced a lot of scathing rebukes of his crappy managerial skills, if not the outright lack thereof.

here we are on july 23 of the first year under maddon and i haven't heard a cutesy derisive nickname for maddon yet, so i think that's a measurable quantity that has to count for something. my uncle was always the song parody guy growing up ("you know that song 'just like living in palestine?' well i like to sing 'just like living in palatine') so methinks he would definitely have something for the binny's pitchman if the situation warranted it.

will dan find a way to definitively come up with a WAR stat for managers? i know the other day they were speculating that john fox could be worth +1 win as a good head coach while trestman was -1 as a bad head coach, so maybe there's some fringe blogger with a baseball prospectus/SABR membership who has done groundbreaking work on coming up with one and they can fire up the scott from davenport computer whiz sound effect as dan brings his work to the masses via the 50kw torch of truthiness and righteousnessiness.

Gordon Whittenmeyer cited a quote from the Tampa Sun last week in which they reported the Rays and there players were not unhappy to see him gone. I believe Chris Archer was the one who stepped out to talk about how Maddon's managerial tactics were inspiring the first time he uses them but lose their effectiveness after a couple of years.

look at the amazing job Maddon has done with Castro. He really set him on the right path.

Dont think I have ever heard one person say Renteria was a bad manager.

In fact, he has only been praised by every player and front office guy.

I know a team that should talk to him.

That was BnB defense of their "point". "If Reneteria were such a great manager why didn't someone else just snap him up?"

That's a stupid defense. He got fired late in the off season. When he got fired, there were no manager jobs available.

You may not be wrong, but we'll find out this off-season.
