Why do you think it's necessary for police to address citizens with a chip on their shoulder? This situation didn't call for aggressiveness in any way. It was strictly about a public servant showing a member of the public he supposedly serves that he was in charge.

We all break laws every day and are kind of at the whim of the officer who chooses to enforce them.

The arrest is not the point to bring up your feelings of violation. Bring that up in court or file a complaint

The aggressiveness is a psychological ploy that works in most situations. I'm sure it's been studied in criminal justice programs.

based on watching a lot of episodes of Cops through the years, the explanation they will always give is that you never know when a routine traffic stop will go bad...basically they are going to assume the absolute worst even if they pull a nun over .

and results in death in roughly 5% of the others.

Watch that t.v. show Alaskan State Troopers ... That's how cops should be trained .. Its not because they gave cameras on either..its because they have to deal with a lot of mentally I'll people n EVERYONE in the state owns guns ...they are spread thin and backup us very far away...They treat people with respect and try to keep situations calm and not escelate things ...For their own safety.

DANVILLE, VA—Recalling the provocation that came midway through a routine traffic stop, Danville police officer Dylan Hayden told reporters Thursday that driver Donald Watkins’ decision to frustratedly point his finger at him was just the green light he needed. “Legally, I’m not allowed to touch the motorist after pulling him over, but when he extended his index finger directly toward me, I knew that gave me the go-ahead right there to take whatever action I deemed necessary,” said Hayden, adding that as soon as he noticed the conceivably threatening hand gesture, he had full authority to skip right ahead to exerting force. “Frankly, I probably would’ve had the okay to rock and roll after he cursed under his breath, but I wanted to be absolutely certain that I was in the clear. Once he pointed his finger at my chest from inside his vehicle, I knew I’d be covered no matter what happened next. He really left the door wide open for me with that one.” Hayden expressed confidence that there was probably someone wanted for robbery who looks similar enough to Watkins to legally justify pulling him over in the first place.

In the video, Encinia tells Bland she is under arrest. She repeatedly asks why, but the trooper does not answer, other than to say, "I am giving you a lawful order."

They argue, then Encinia pulls what appears to be his Taser and points it at Bland.

He screams: "Get out of the car! I will light you up! Get out! Now!"

Bland then exits the car of her own accord, saying: "Wow, really, for a failure to signal? You're doing all of this for a failure to signal?"

Much of what happens next is not seen on camera, but the officer can be heard saying Bland is not compliant.

"When you pull away from me, you're resisting arrest," Encinia says.

A clearly upset Bland can be heard saying: "You're a real man now. You just slammed me, knocked my head in the ground. I got epilepsy you mother******."

"Good," he replies.

That doesnt give cops the right to abuse people. The same way that these dickhead cops doing this doesnt justify the murder of cops.

Especially if they are short guys. Saw a Prospect Heights cop pulled a guy over yesterday, the cop was probably shorter than Bernstein. He (the cop) was driving an SUV the size of a tank and he was walking up to the car looking all puffed out and manly. I am guessing there was no verbal warning given to that guy.

The depressing thing is that unless the FBI does something here, the cop will walk. He'll then "retire" from this hayseed PD & probably find a better job in another hayseed TX PD.

The only saving grace is that the Attorney General's office clearly is looking to nail this great "first responder".
