I'm growing increasingly uncomfortable with the idea that in dealing with cops we should all act like 4 year olds who disappointed mommy and need to show over the top levels of contrition to prove that we are really sorry that we didn't use a turn signal.

I get that we need to respect cops and they do have a tough job but it seems like so many people think it is completely normal in any interaction to cops to turn yourself into Ned Flanders so the cop really understands just how sorry you are that you didn't stop for 3 seconds at that stop sign.

one night i passed through a red light at an intersection where the light fixture at the cross street was beaming green and i wasn't paying attention and thought it was my green light, so i turned left thinking i could. i get pulled over immediately, and the cop was giving *me* attitude. so i just said, "look, i really didn't realize, i was looking at the wrong light, i know that was stupid." and he just said "Yeah right, you knew."

so yeah...i didn't give him anything for it. because i think he wanted me to. when he came back to give me the ticket he said something like "i'm glad i caught you because you probably do this a lot." like how and why would i do that? but thanks so much for the lesson, officer! should have just locked me up.

I wouldn't want to be one either..but its just not really dangerous ... Electrician or Laborer.. Commercial fisherman or Iron worker all more dangerous ...n nobody is suxking these guys dicks n saying how dangerous they have it... A god damn roofer or lumber jack is more dangerous . Don't believe the hype ...I know plenty of cops who have will retire with a datass pention uninjured .... I know plenty if iron workers walking with bad limps from falls or guys missing a finger or two from running a press for 25 years.

I doubt that I would volunteer to do a job like that. Many people do it for the money and power though.

Chicago cops start at 55k with o.t. it's in the 80s in Rookie year. I know some guys making 125 k yearly ... Pension is real sweet ... I know lotta guys pulling in 60k a year and when they die the wife gets half if that yearly until her death...lotta cops already pulled in over a million in pension alone ...they are going to be around another 10-15 years.
