Last week Gov. Rauner floated an idea about closing down a minimum security prison somewhere downstate to help address the budget crisis. It's amazing how quickly that idea was dismissed.

when i heard that this shit happened last night i turned on fox news and found out that the gunman was said to be a "lone white male" and i was immediately like "oh shit, this means it's only gonna get better for us 'lone white males' out there"

whether it's hillary's radical (think 90s-style "awesome!" synonym) idea for "fun camps" or some of those tinfoil fringey things about how homeless in utah might be getting sent to FEMA camps for practice or whatnot..... man this is not a good time to be a white dude who doesn't have a dynamic social life (which in 2015 might just mean you don't comment on a lot of facebook posts) cuz NBC news had that story about how white people are now the #1 terrorist threat in the USA (time to turn that NSA/DHS anti-terrorism apparatus on the people, eh?) and it's just like...... holy shit, the ride doesn't only never end but it might only really be getting started right now.

anyways, if all else fails for me within a couple'a years i'm just going to create some multi-generational wealth by making/selling t-shirts that say "SORRY I'M WHITE" and then i'll be set. maybe there's a certain $$$-level you can reach to be one of don tiny's "good upstanding people" and thusly avoid the FEMA camps? or who am i kidding i'll go "investigate" what happened to those people in utah.

all in all, when shit like this happens i loathe looking at #TrendingHashtags on twitter cuz holy fucking SHITBALLS when everyone "speaks their mind" i'm reminded of the beauty of like, example, 30+ years ago when you woulda have really had to go out of your way to get everyone's opinion on every stupid thing because holy shit the endless echochamber ping-ponging up and back in the form of a twitter feed endlessly prattling on like another line of matrix code dribbling down the screen = yeah in 2015 social media gives you the power to speak and theoretically be heard by millions if not billions of people.... but you know what gives you not just even more power but extra brownie points with me? SHUTTING THE FUCK UP

but yeah i reckon in the end this will all come down to "WE NEED TO SIT DOWN AND HAVE A SERIOUS DISCUSSION ABOUT COMMON SENSE #GUNCONTROL RIGHT NOW. You're goddamn right there is. There should be at least a 2 week waiting period to conduct a thorough background check. This would also allow people who may be enraged or impulsive to perhaps cool down during the waiting period.

what's always going to be the issue with "diagnosing" or trying to preemptively stop anyone from psychopathic tendencies is that you never really know whether a person will seriously commit the crime. we don't want a "minority report" situation when people who haven't done anything and may never do anything get put away. i've said before, if you apply the diagnosis to anyone with impure thoughts, you could be putting the wrong people away for no reason. and sometimes the most sadistic people are the best liars. they will tell people whatever they want to hear, and then commit horrendous crimes. ted bundy lied and lied until he couldn't lie anymore about killing those girls. and he never looked like a killer.

the only thing you can do is at least restrict what clinically mentally ill people can buy as far as firearms. but as we saw previously, even background checks can get fucked up and people will still get guns.

Will you be able to help everyone? No. Will you be able to stop every incident? No. Reality is you can help a lot of people. We can probably stop some if these shootings and definitely reduce other crimes. We shouldn't let perfection be the enemy of the good. Throwing them all in prison definitely isn't helping.
