Statistically, it really isn't a dangerous job. It's more dangerous to be a truck driver.

That maybe so, just stating how I feel.

You aren't impressed with the unfunded pension promises?

Another perk is that they can do whatever they want up to and including murder and have people arguing on their behalf and calling them heroes

I still have a CDL.

I'll drive a truck any day of the week before being a cop in the inner city.

I first heard about 2 Gun Pete (Sylvester Washington) from my dad & his friends over twenty years ago. At that time my (now) 94 yr. old grandfather then started laughing and started telling 2 Gun stories.

I just mentioned this to my dad, who started laughing, I guess as the defense mechanism some of us employ.

I would agree truck driving is probably more dangerous then being a cop in Mokena.

The worst that can happen to you is pulling over a pantsless Terry Boers.

I think I may have mentioned this to you, but differing perspectives are funny. I don't fear most parts of the city (Norwood Pk & Mt. Greenwood excepted) and would likely have no problem with being a cop here, but working in many suburbs  puts me on an almost immediate edge.

I think we may have discussed many of the places in the inner city where I used to work. Thankfully, most are gone, but I still wouldn't want to work a police shift there if they were still around.

My uncle n neighbor were tight with him , they used to drink in his bar n worked the same diatrict. They said he was a Bad MF n great cop. I am thinking your dad n grandpa wouldn't agree.

I still have a CDL.

50 police officers last year were killed by guns.
49 were killed by traffic accidents.

Still though, it doesn't change the fact that many other jobs are more dangerous.

Agreed. But they are dangerous for different reasons.

The iron worker isn't being targeted for injury. The truck driver isn't either.

And all of that is before you get to the stress that cops deal with on a daily basis.

And over 30,000 people are killed in car accidents every year in America. Which means you would be better off joining the Army and being sent to Afghanistan than driving to work.

Who cares if they are "targeted for injury" or not? I'd still rather have a smaller chance of dying.

It wouldn't make me feel any better knowing the iron beam didn't want to crush me.
