Lost to best pitcher and worst pitcher.

#1 in sucking right now!

Credit to Hamels for some masterfull shit...and as Joe stated this morning, the guy was cranking 94 MPH in the 9th...and even a few 96's....

Still no excuse....

I have nothing much to say. The Cubs are a "good" team, and good teams can get swept by even the worst teams. I'm disappointed...specifically frustrated in the offense. The three pitchers you mentioned have been lights out for 2-3 months. I'm not going to get upset with two quality starts by Lester and Arrieta (amazing how a quality start for those two is considered terrible now) and a clunker by Hammel. It was unfortunate...this sweep came at a terrible time.

But...move forward. Three games does not make a season.

They do this every time they play a bottom feeder. Good teams clean this shit up. Cardinals for example.

This year is about experience and growth. They are not ready to contend yet this year. Sure, they could still get in the playoffs, but they are not ready to contend for a title. I hope they gain a wild card berth and win the play-in game, so the young players get the valuable experience that would provide. But lets relax a bit.

MLB teams only get chances to win championships every so often. Not saying they are even ready for that yet but they are in the mix now. Time to grow up now. Next year can be a disaster from start to finish who knows? Relax my ass.

Do you think they will get the level of pitching next year that they have gotten this year?

You have to strike while the iron is hot.

Why wouldnt the pitching be near the same? Or better, since the Cubs are likely to obtain another top pitcher in the next 6 months.

Likely? That's a bit presumptuous.

The team has gotten the best Hammel has to give professionally in two half seasons. I wouldn't pencil it in for him to match production in future years.

I'm not as bullish on Hendricks as I'm sure you are.

Hendricks has been the exact same pitcher since he got here last year. Hammel has been the exact same pitcher since he got here last year. Same with Arrieta. And Lester is pitching at career norms. I expect any fluctuation, up or down, would be minor.

And the Cubs are very likely to obtain another top starter by the start of next season. It has been The Plan all along. Theo and Hoyer have talked about the pitching available in 2015-2016 free agency for years.

This is the IMU we have all grown to love.

No Cubs player will ever regress, ever.

Or improve, apparently.

But I was certainly correct about the Jose Abreu regression.

They targeted Sanchez and Tanaka only to come up short in consecutive years, so you see how "very likely" would be an overstatement.

Hamel had a great half year last year. He had a great first half this year. Both of these are outliers in his career. Maybe the uniform transforms him into superman.

It's ok. I'm operating under the policy that there is no difference between winning 84 games and 60 games and that the worst thing you can do is barely miss the playoffs!

There is a plethora of starting pitching available this offseason. This wasn't so in the last few years.

And the Cubs don't need a bullpen like the Royals have, because they have Rizzo. Never mind that the Tigers have had Miguel Cabrera (better than Rizzo) and a shitty pen, and have won exactly nothing.

They didn't go to the playoffs several years in a row, only to come up short, like the Tigers.

I'll take my chances with a lockdown bullpen.

I wouldn't say " they lost out " on Tanaka or Sanchez...they offered both fair contracts ..The Yankees foolishly overpaid. Sanchez ..I'm not sure what happened... I think he took one extra year with Detroit . which is dumb , The A.L. is tougher and Detroit is a shithole.

K.C. has got a great pen ..they still need better starting pitching ..they are lucky to be in the weak ass A.L. central
