Things have started to get very ugly between Robert Allenby and his former caddie, Mick Middlemo.

It started last week when Allenby abruptly fired Middlemo half-way through a tournament round after an on-course disagreement. A fellow caddie who knows both the men came to Middlemo’s defense, and now, Middlemo is jumping into the fight.

The caddie fought back by bringing up a bizarre incident involving Allenby earlier this year. At the time, Allenby claimed that he sustained a series of injuries after being drugged, kidnapped and assaulted. Subsequent evidence, however, seemed to reveal that his injuries were the result of an alcohol-induced fall.

The mystery remains unsolved, but the caddie, who backed Allenby at the time, went back on his original statements in an interview with News Corp Australia:

Middlemo now says he believes Allenby simply fell over and injured his face after drinking too much wine and tequila and not eating enough food.

“Do I think he got mugged and bashed and absolutely robbed? No I don’t. That’s the story I told because that’s the story he told me to tell because I wasn’t there,” Middlemo told News Corp Australia.

“Do I think he just fell over and cracked his head? Honestly I do … I think he fell over and someone picked up his wallet and had a great time with his credit card.”
