Current administration holds (or held) numerous "media sessions" with sympathetic outlets where they would give them talking points and various other marching orders.

As Nas alluded to, this is nothing. All administrations do the same thing with legitimate news outlets, just as the Cubs do with Dan Bernstein.

I don't think it's a big deal that they try to get Stewart to carry their message. I do think it's a big deal that they take his advice. He is just a comedian. If I want a comedian running the country I'll vote for Donald Trump.
