It would be quite the story for the Sox to come out of that hole and get a wildcard spot.

However, they are still 3.5 games out and have several teams in front of them and basically everyone in the entire AL is in the wildcard race. Not likely they can continue this pace that has won 6 in a row.

The Cubs on the other hand are playing their worst baseball of the year and are still only 2.5 games out and it is basically a 3 team race for the 2nd wildcard spot and will realistically come down to their head to head match ups with the Giants. Although the Mets may sneak past both of them.

The Cubs are not going to continue to play this bad and the Sox are not going to continue to play this good.

Reality is both teams will probably miss the wildcard. Cubs will finish with 84 wins and be 2 games out of the wild card and 3rd place in the central. Sox will finish with 79 wins and be several out of wildcard and in 4th place in the central.
The Cubs aren't really playing their worst baseball of the year though. They are a .500 team, like they've pretty much been since April ended.

The Sox on the other hand have been one of the best teams in baseball for the month of July. It may not be a fluke.

Since May 1st:

Sox 40-38
Cubs 39-39

This just means that the Cubs Sox series at The Cell will have much more meaning.....I see a lot of fights in the 500 section looming.

What's that based on? The historical record? I always see those percentages and I don't buy it. In September 2012 the Sox were supposedly 85% to win the Central.

Anyway, I think looking at the next 30 games is too long term. If they're gonna get back in it, they have to do it quick. Take 7 of the next 10 and see where they stand.
