1. While the officer didn't mention it to Bland, it appears that the reason he made a u-turn to follow Bland was because she rolled through a stop sign as she turned right onto the road the officer was on. While we can't be sure of his thought process, I think this provides a better justification for why he turned around and followed her (as opposed to the DWB or out-of-state plates theories).

2. If you are asked to get out of your car by an officer, it might be prudent to make it known that you will not be taken out of the dashcam's field of view (if the officer tries to force you off camera).

I don't buy #1. Especially considering that he not only never said it but there is no proof it happened or that he saw it.

What little free time you have is spent running scared from GWOT vets with untreated PTSD and a badge who are quickly realizing that Texas values human life even less than Iraq.

If I knew I was going to be in Texas for anything more than a layover at DFW Id hang myself too.

I don't think there's been a single impassioned leftist post here in the last month that hasn't been immediately met by Hawg Ass saying "hyurp, fine by me" or something along those lines. The word count ratio is always at least 12:1. Every time there's one of these replies, I imagine him kicking up his feet on the desk, crossing his arms, and grinning a shit-eating grin. "I disagree and that's all the argument I'm obligated to make because fuuuuuuuck yoooou."

Very easy solution for you, don't read my post.

Settle down, sport.

Your ratio of words to Hawg's words is 500:1

Not sure of you saw the entire video clip from the end of the prior stop the officer made, but I thought it was clear she rolled through the stop. Whether the cop noticed it is debatable.

I saw her turn. I saw him let the woman go with a warning for speeding and driving without insurance. I also saw him do a u-turn and speed up behind Bland. He said he pulled her over for a failure to signal. That's the primary reason I don't buy #1. I agree with #2 but it's kinda out of your control.

Driving without insurance should be an automatic fine, license suspension. No fucking "warnings". Im willing to bet those who drive without insurance are exponentially more likely to flee accidents as well putting everyone else in further danger.

KD! I love it. Exactly, when did it become wrong to have a reasonable disagreement on an issue?

America wouldn't go to Texas for a job. Hawg would. Seems simple to me.

I watched the entire video. What is amazing to me is how quickly it escalated from a routine traffic to a confrontation. Both adults acted irrationally. First I have no clue how Bland could be that noticeably upset about a routine traffic stop. It was so routine in fact that she was only going to get a warning (i.e. no ticket). Now she didn't know that, but clearly all her records were in order such that the cop was going to let her off. Further, I have no clue why she wouldn't comply with the request to put out the cigarette. After that point, it's the cop's turn to be a dbag. The woman is not enough of a threat to take such drastic action as try to forcibly remove her from the car or taser her. They both act like idiots from that point on over a routine traffic stop.

The sad thing is, the cop seemed very polite with the first traffic stop and acted the same way at the beginning of the Bland traffic stop.

The level of distrust between the police and Black America is readily apparent to me. There is no way I would ever act like that towards a police officer. I equally believe there is no way a police officer would act that way towards me in similar circumstances. It's like both sides in the Bland stop were just itching for confrontation.

I use my signal, and not because I am smarter than anyone else. But I do speed! If I get pulled over for it, then I get what I deserve for breaking the law.

She was annoyed because she felt she shouldn't have been pulled over anyway. Watching the entire video it should be clear to anyone that she was targeted because she had out of state plates or because she was black. He did a u-turn and sped up behind her. She was getting out of his way on a fairly empty road. Then he pulls her over. I've gotten out of the way of cops and emergency vehicles many times without signaling. I'm sure most people here have done the same. Also I don't believe that you have to signal if the cars behind you are a certain distance away.

Cops have a complex. It's no secret that out of town folks are more likely to be targeted. The fact that Blacks are (DWB) is part of that distrust I talked about. At the end of the day, it is not an excuse for getting upset like a child during the stop, not putting out the cigarette, or not getting out of the car. I am not going to make excuses for either party. They are both culpable for acting childish during the stop.

I agree that she had a valid reason for moving over without signaling. If this cop so hated Blacks or out of town folks, then he would have given her a ticket. I think many times cops are looking for a reason to pull someone over as a pretext for finding something bigger, like drugs in the front seat, an outstanding warrant, no driver's license.

I have more distrust of government than anyone in this forum. I can't stand the security apparatus, the jailing of so many people, arrests for petty drugs crimes, the targeting of companies for recurring fines, etc, etc. I expect adults to act like such, both the police and the people being police. In this case, neither acted reasonably.

To your point, I have no problem with reasonable disagreements. Or unreasonable disagreements. The board is built on them. I don't like terse responses that make no points of their own, with "agree to disagree" responses that pre-empt any further argument. If you made some longform argument for, I dunno, blasting the poor into space, and I just said "I wouldn't blast the poor into space, but that's just me," and you asked why not, and I just said "that's my opinion and I'll leave it at that," wouldn't you be a little annoyed with my failure to rebut your poverty-based ballistics? It's stubborn arrogance dressed up as conciliatory friendliness and I hate it. But that's just me and whatever you think is okay too.
