wouldn't it have been better for them to finish in last place?

I remember this logic being included somewhere in the twisted justification of The(o) Plan over the years. I just wanted to know if it was still a belief that is held by the Cult.

No, I'm afraid much like Abreu, his best days are behind him.

You have the strategy screwed up. If you know your team has no shot at the playoffs, it's better to finish last and get a top draft choice. However, if the team has the opportunity to grab a playoff berth, where they wind up finishing is not a concern. Trying to give the team the best chance to get that spot without mortgaging the future becomes the focus.
