It's a guessing game,so how 'bout?: Puig to the Cubs for Solar and Castro.

Teams speaking with the #Padres say they’re about to get “super-active” & think they’re positioning themselves to make a “huge deal.”

I'd approve of that move ...I like Soler ..he hits the ball harder than anyone on the Cubs. But losing Castro is a big plus.

The Padres, looking for shortstop, infielders, lefty bats and young controllable pieces while soliciting offers for just about anyone, have talked to the Padres about slugging prospect Javier Baez.

There's potential for a match with the Padres, and the sides have had discussions in recent days. Pitcher Andrew Cashner, as a former Cub, is one guy who could fit them. Cubs GM Jed Hoyer had Cashner when he was in San Diego but traded him when he got to Chicago in a deal for Anthony Rizzo.

The Padres have received offers for both Cashner and Tyson Ross, and Ross in particular is extremely popular.

Doesn't everyone on the Dodgers hate Puig?

That distinction has a different meaning than it used to

So Carlos Gomez has been dealt to the Mets. Sounds like Cole Hammels will be sent to the Rangers sometime tonight or tomorrow. Dodgers are the favorite for Price. That leaves the Cubs with shit. Theo and Jed said this is the 1st year that they're buyers, well wtf is going on.

From a very reliable source:

Cubs working on a deal for Ross and Kimbrel. Castro and three minor leaguers going the other way. The hang up may be the Padres insisting on Gyorko being part of the deal.

Works for me. Take back Gyorko, do whatever you need to do

That would work for me. Been a Ross fan since he was with the A's, and the closer move is what I'm really wanting. Wasn't a fan of the pen going into the season, and they have proven me right. If you can get a closer, Rondon moves to the 8th, and Strop/Motte get the 7th.

Watching MLB Tonight, and Harold Reynolds might be the biggest dope of all-time. First he asked are the Astros really this good, or is it the product of the division. Then he says look out for the Rangers next season, having Hamilton for a full season, lol.

Having a hard time believing they trade for Castro. Heard earlier they like Javy a lot.

Castro is going nowhere. His trade value is at an all time low. They will keep him and try to rebuild his image in the baseball community with a better final 2 months. Never trade from a position of weakness.

I don't discount the Rangers being relevant in 2016.

I'd rather trade Castro than Baez in a Padres deal.

Castro still has value. It would be illogical to think his 2015 season projects the rest of his career. And his cost and control is still attractive. You won't net David Price...but you could get Andrew Cashner. And I don't value Ross over Cashner by much because Ross walks a ton of batters. In San Diego, that doesn't bite him in the ass as much as it would Wrigley.

Going by what Wittemeyer said, for what it's worth, the Cubs told Castro they weren't trading him after exhausting all possiblities.

It's kind of an odd thing to tell a player...in essence, "Sorry Starlin, we tried everything we could to get rid of you, but there were no takers."

They didn't tell him that exact quote. They tried to trade him, couldn't, and then told him he wasn't going to be traded.
