How many walks ?

61 which is too many but he's still a real good #3

And he never gets blown out.

22 starts. 4 runs is the most he's given up. Last year in 31 starts he never gave up more than 5.

Perfect #3 type

@BusterOlney: There is some speculation within the industry about a possible BOS/Cubs/Padres three-way blockbuster taking shape. Lots of pieces that fit.

Boston has 5 #3 starters.

tyson ross or carrasco would be good fits for the cubs, good contract situations, and both are quality big-league pitchers with some years left in the tank. it also would end the dallas beeler experiments. if they can pull something off and then hit free agency hard this winter for a true top of the rotation ace, the cubs would really be in business.

Legitimate just saw someone tweet that they would need Soler and Schwarber for Carrasco.

Cubs get Dan Haren (for next to nothing I'm sure).

Brett Taylor ‏@BleacherNation 3m3 minutes ago

Brett Taylor retweeted Gordon Wittenmyer

If true, that could be the only starting pitcher the Cubs pick up today. Pure rental, back-of-the-rotation type.

Brett Taylor added,
Gordon Wittenmyer @GDubCub
Source: Haren to Cubs from Marlins.

Haren could go to the Padres in this three team deal being discussed. He wants to play in Southern California. This was why he thought about retiring when traded to the Marlins.

Chicago may not be his final destination.

Heard something about a major 3 way between Cub, Red Sock, Padre bandied about.

I could see this being a way to balance having to take back Gyorko (whether that is the Cubs or Red Sox).

Could definitely be a blockbuster.

The Cubs are looking at Chase Utley?

What the hell do they need Chase Utley for?

Sure, it's BP help for a guy who never was going to get a full time shot.

Well, we waited years to be buyers again, and we get Haren and Hunter, eh. Far from ground shaking. I think the Giants and Mets both got better. Theo and Jed went the way of the Bulls and are in love with their guys. Really needed to add a closer in my world. If they added Kimbrel or Chapman it would of been a win.

I'm good with what they did.

Hopefully Castro rebounds so they can unload him in the offseason.

I'm glad they kept Baez.

I still thing he has the ability to make changes to his swing that will correct some things. He's looked pretty good with his approach from the video I've seen.

That is a stretch for now.

You cannot just make a trade, you have to have a team that is willing to trade with you. From all the reprots so far the Padres deal died because the Padre GM decided they could still make the playoffs.

Kimbrel would have been huge. I guess it's up to Rondon now.

Disagree ...I think they worked their nutz off to dump Castro n Edwin Jackson . You can't force someone to take your garbage.

They had already designated Jackson for assignment, haven't they?

they filled a couple holes for minimal cost. if they had had a chance to win this division in think they would have gone in a little deeper, but i think they did the right thing being conservative on a possible wild card team. this off-season they will probably go aggressively after the quality free agents.

going all-in on this team at this time would likely have been a mistake.

Lake was out of options. Very likely they lost him for nothing next season.

Yes.

Theo assigned him to go home and collect $30M dollars of the Ricketts money.

So the 2 guys the Cubs got at the deadline, Hunter and Haren have been eh at best. As advertised, Haren is giving up HRs like crazy. Hunter, I have no confidence in when he comes in.

Haren will likely be a .500 pitcher for the Cubs. he will give them a chance to win more games than Dallas Beeler, Wada, or Travis Wood, but not dominate by any means. He wasn't brought in to take a spot in a playoff rotation, only to solidify the 5th spot in the rotation Motte was struggling and Ramirez was out on the D.L. so adding another power arm at a minimal cost made sense. If he never takes on a significant role, it's because other guys are doing their jobs. All is well.
