That's awful, Ed. I went through a similar situation in 2010. On X-Mas eve, my brother kept complaining that his left arm and shoulder were bothering him. He smokes, drinks a lot, and doesn't eat well, but you don't think a 31 year old is going to have a heart attack. But, that is exactly what happened on the morning of the 26th. He was having problems breathing, so his girlfriend, who was pregnant at the time, called an ambulance. When he got to the hospital, the doctors confirmed that he had suffered a massive heart attack, and they weren't sure that he was going to make it. He spent a few days in the ER, and was released from the hospital one week later, but I have never been so scared in my life.
My father had a minor heart attack at 48, and a massive one that killed him at 66. Listen to your body, people.
Keep your thoughts positive, and be reassured that he is under the care of good doctors.
Hows your brother doing now? Lost weight. eating better? I know having something like that happen to me would sure as hell scare me enough to swear off all vices forever.
He is alright. He wasn't overweight, so he didn't need to lose any. He was/is one of those skinny guys who can eat a shitload. He still smokes, but he drinks less. Having a child definitely got him to slow down from his hard partying, but he is stubborn, just like our father was. I fear that I am going to get that phone call again one day, and it won't be one I want to take.
Heart disease runs on both sides of my family, so my wife made me go to the doctor to get my heart checked out, after my brother's incident. Other than carrying around 25 pounds too many, I am as healthy as a horse. I don't smoke cigarettes, so I've got that going for me.
