The garage is attached to a mud room. He got in the garage, but couldn't get into the house. I locked the garage/house door.

Well if it was September-May, garage is better than being outdoors.

In the summer......not so much.

Downers Grove must be a real warzone these days.

Isn't the entire point of a suburb to isolate oneself from other people? Particularly certain kinds of other people? That's why the attached garage was designed. You don't even have to leave the house to get in your car. With all the taxes you pay out there, you certainly don't want black people knocking on your door! I could be wrong though. I'm waiting for Scorehead to let me know.

As a resident of the glorious suburb of Matteson, if that was my goal, it's not going the way I planned.

We all talk to each other.

We pay less in taxes.

And our neighborhoods are far more diverse than places like Sauganash, Norwood park and Edison park.

And the drug users get to go to the city and buy them while not having to take part in the shootings.

Don't take it personally, Seacrest. I'm talking about the reasons suburbs exist and the way their rise was connected to the automobile. Sure, demographics have changed over the last fifty years. But the fact is, there are still many suburbs where normal human behavior, like walking for instance, is considered odd.

And Sauganash, Norwood Park, and Edison Park are, for all intents and purposes, suburbs themselves. In the 50s those places were way out there at the end of the line.

Sneaker O' Toole, racist who couldn't quite do it right.

So, anyways, are we at the point now that everyone who ever moved to a suburb did it because they are a raging bigot and hate black people?

I thought the attached garage was designed so that people didn't have to go out in the elements to get in their car as well as taking up a smaller foot print on the property?

I bet you think that the gun was invented to shoot your neighbors when you disagree with them.

I didn't say that, but racism is undoubtedly one of the major reasons why suburbs exist. Are you really going to argue about that?

Right by the Metra and the Eisenhower. What else do you need?

Of course not.

Racists stayed in Mt. Greenwood, Edgebrook, Sauganash and Edison Park.

Only if they have city jobs or enough money. Poor racists often end up in Streamwood or Orland Park.

I was being kinda sorta tongue n' cheek.

It played a role, Im sure but it wasn't the biggest factor.....there is actually a pretty clear socio-economic timeline/path that The Exodus follows. The path may actually circle back around.

True. I think it already has in a lot of cases. But I don't think we can really separate socio-economic status from race. Restrictive covenants and unspoken rules of real estate sales succeeded in ghettoizing black people for a long time, and it was particularly bad in the Chicago area. There's good reason Chicago is known for segregation.

A good Ta-Nehisi Coates article on the subject:

Have you been to Streamwood lately? It's not the ideal location for a racist.

You didn't actually think the term "white flight" became a part of the American lexicon because it happened to rhyme did you?
