guess it depends on what your definition of star is. A guy flirting with .300 ( in a good year) with ok pop and minus defense doesn't really qualify to me. Hell even if he approaches Mark Grace like numbers ( which I doubt he will over his career ) he still isn't a star as Grace was always considered a very good player but a notch below a star player . He's still young so we will see .

He has no excuses this year. Big bad Soriano is gone, trainer has been busting his ass, Sveum and the heavy metal crew are gone and Habla Espanol Renteria is in charge. If he fails he just plain sucks.

It is 'cool' to rip on Soriano.

When Soriano went into decline and started losing his natural ability, I dont think he did shit about it for 2-3 years. he was an adequate OF on his best days.

When he was traded, he was doing as well as he had done in 4-5 years with the Cubs.

Some real short term memories around here.

And when you make the most money on a team, yes, you are going to take the most shit if they lose. Its how it works everywhere in the world. See the 1%.

Sorianos OF play was terrible for a long stretch of Hopping and misplaying fly balls.

If his last 4 years were like his last 4 months, nobody would have had an issue with him.

I wonder if anyone in chicago even knows the guy used to steal 30 and 40 bases on a regular basis.

We got the stats of a journeyman OF in the Matt Stairs mold for the price of Babe Ruth at the time. No, its not all blamed on him, because they gave him the money, but he wasnt the player they paid for.

You've got the short term memory it seems. His defensive WAR went up every year since 2010, don't think that would happen if he's lazy. His hitting in 2010 and 2012 seasons were waaaaaay better than his last 4 months as a Cub.

The leadoff selfishness added to the post season numbers are enough to rationally hate on his run as a Cub

No hate for the guy. He gave his all everyday

and?

413 plate appearances for a young guy they just unloaded on who plays a low intensity defensive position...seems logical.

Did you know that Rickey Henderson's stolen bases also declined a ton when he was in his thirties?

Kenny Lofton too.

So weird how that works, isn't it?

Starlin is off to another hot August. August has always been a good month throughout his career. Time to right the ship!

Starlin for Cashner and then you turn Andrew into the closer.

Closers don't matter. Keep him as a starter.

Tell that to Kerry Wood. He could have had a great career had he been moved to the pen sooner.

For the ENTIRE month of August, Starlin Castro has an OPS of .864 with only 1 strikeout.

His struggles are far in the rear view mirror.

There have been more line drives and hard hit balls in the past several days, giving hope that a better final 2 months could be in store.

Berns says that the advanced metrics say that Castro is the worst everyday player in MLB. Not sure that I agree.

Wait....hold on....
Hardcore "stat guy" believes that a player can have a "dedicated calendar month" that he is "hot" in throughout his career??
Am I reading this correctly?

Look at his August splits...

Some players are known for starting a season hot...or cold. Or doing well at home versus the road. Or hitting well the day after an offday. Or hitting better from the 2 hole than the 6 hole.

This isn't high school calculus. You don't need to show your work. But the answer is 'Castro is really good in August.'

They don't matter until you don't have one to close out those games down the stretch and in the playoffs.

RESPECT THE 90.

I stated in Milwaukee, he hit the ball hard on a number of occassions and I thought that would continue, but its not enough to want to keep him.

The talent exists, the mind doesnt....and for that reason you need to get rid of him

He is quite possibly the dumbest player I have seen in 30 years of watching MLB. You cannot fix stupid.
