That's my main problem as well, so many subplots etc. I have to Google episode reviews to follow everything.

Essentially, Frank's assistant, the Mayor, Caspere, the Russian's etc. conspired to fuck Frank out the land deals from the offset and this last episode he realized that and now it's on.

Not sure how his wife, Farrell's wife/son/shady past, Rachel's crazy dad/sister etc tie into any of this at this point.

I think?

Ray's kid is the least likeable one of all.

Biggest and only twist left.

Actually thought that was the call when she walked into the casino after Vince smashed the glass into the guys head.

First time any thought was put into this show.

May I also add the worst sex scene in the history of HBO

BF, agree on the sex scene. We have been waiting all year for the two cops to get it on, and that was it? Especially after her bedroom weirdness with the first boyfriend earlier in the season.

I think people's expectations got jacked too high after the first season. It's a B- Michael Mann movie spread over eight hours.

It seems like the show has lost interest in answering the paternity question surrounding "Ray's" son. If so, that's bad writing, since it was a focal point for at least the first four or five episodes.

Vince Vaughn's heel turn is uninteresting because he never seemed like a "good" guy in the first place. That's bad writing.

The scene in which Ani and Ray "figure out" that Chessani's secretary is one of the orphaned children from Kasper's diamond heist--because someone called her "Laura" instead of "Erica"--was completely preposterous. That's horrific writing.

The notion that Dixon was independently following Woodrugh--and that his pictures somehow fell into the hands of Holloway--also seems preposterous, unless Dixon was somehow surreptitiously performing blackmail work for Holloway. In both cases, though, that's awful writing because either the Dixon-Holloway connection hasn't been explained or it doesn't exist.

There's more (or should I say less?), but I'm too bored to type it out. I think the show is bored with itself, too. It has every reason to be.

We now know how important Cary Fukunaga was.

This show is bloated and not sharp enough, he would have provided that counter and kept things on track.

I think the problem with this season is that Pizzolatto evidently started writing a script, decided he didn't like the direction of his story, and then radically changed directions without having sufficient time to revise effectively. No director can save utterly confused and convoluted writing, unless he has the power to rewrite the script himself.

Just way too much shit is going on. Everybody is fucked up with problems. They made it complicated which had to be a lot of time writing it. So they gave an effort. But less would have been more.

First season the focus was on two guys and their problems and one common goal. Not 10 people with their problems and 10 different goals.

I'm 2 episodes behind n don't care ...no interest ..Woody n Matt n the producer saved this buster Pozalato last year... He was offered a fortune to do season 2 n obviously accepted. Awful writing , casting n producing.

Evidently I was correct in hypothesizing that Pizzolatto significantly altered fundamental aspects of the season 2 script after deciding he either didn't like the original story or had no idea how to complete it. Because the c first few episodes suggest the current season's narrative will deal with the occult, I am guessing he didn't change the story until filming had begun--and then was forced to do so very rapidly. This season bears many telltale signs of a hasty, incomplete, and disjointed revision process. That's largely why it has been so bad.

mashable.com wrote:
If you'd spent the last couple of years working on a script about the secret occult history of U.S. transportation system and were shocked and devastated by the logline of True Detective Season 2, today is your lucky day. The HBO anthology's second go-round is not about that anymore.

In a Q&A that Nic Pizzolatto did with HBO posted Friday on Medium, the series creator says he veered away from occult elements, which he "ended up discarding in favor of closer character work and a more grounded crime story."

I think that point can't be stated enough. I now tend to believe it was Fukunaga's vision that made the first season what it was. Without him, it seems like Pizzolatto has had free reign and just doesn't know how to edit himself. Very Russoesque!

The production value was very good on season 1 ...that camera work in the projects was great ...Woody n Matt carried this Bum season 1 ..the ending sucked ..it exposed bad writing sure ..but It was overlooked due to the acting .. This guy is a one hit wonder . bad casting on on McAdams on Vaughn n poor writing doomed this piece of shit from day one .

It was Ray's baby. She said she owed it to his sons. Plural.

Ray's baby? There wasn't 9 months from banging. The girls weren't showing. No. What? Who the hell conceived the child with Ray?

They were assuming the roles of their late lovers by taking over as crime bosses in a small, corrupt Venezuelan ciudad.

You have no idea of the time line. Ray had a baby with Bezzerides. It was a pretty awful season. Thankfully only 8 episodes. I thought maybe they
could pull it out after the last few episodes but instead of being a mediocre finale they drove it right into a telephone pole. Bad, bad, bad.

Ray, (paraphrase), "I could lose this tail on a tricycle". A few minutes later he is stuck in some forest, loses the cash, and the is being closely pursued by four crooked cops.

Vince Vaugh- The Mexican wants his suit. He punches the guy even though he is surrounded by a bunch of gun wielding gangsters. I think I would have dumped the suit.

I am ok if you want to kill those characters off, but why do it in such a dumb manner?

Either that or they were running late for their shifts as hostesses at TGIF Caracas.

But right after he says that to McAdams, he has her hand the phone to Scarface and tells her that he's "not going to make it." He knows he's as good as dead at that point; he was only reassuring McAdams so she would get on the boat.

Ray didnt want to lose them. he wanted to take them away from her. Thats why he left the tracer on the car...AT FIRST. But he could have driven somewhere, giving her time, then lost them...or he could have put the tracer in the car, lost the tail...and then dumped the tracer...or a million better endings than being tracked down in a forest like an injured deer.

weak start, weak show, weak finish....I did laugh shen she said "You know you are a terrible actor"...YEAH!

Yeah, my wife and I were laughing uproariously at that.

Apparently Jordan had been watching this season, too.
