What do you think was the original plan with Schwarber?

During the offseason, the Cub tried hard to land Russell Martin. I think they even were willing to go five years on the contract. Once that fell through, the quickly snatched up Montero, who has two years remaining on his deal for significant money. So there's no way the front office saw or sees Schwarber sticking at catcher, right?

Then where did they see him fitting in? You immediately think LF, but wasn't the thinking all along that Bryant ends up there? Well maybe Bryant moves to RF, but then what do you do with Soler? So was Schwarber ultimately going to be traded or was Soler always going to be the odd man out? This question is going to have to be answered sooner or later.

The only other thing I can think of is maybe Theo & Co. were tipped off that the DH is coming to the NL sooner then we expect.

Draft the best player (hitter) available, period. Worry about the rest when you have to. Position changes, career ending injuries, trades...rosters are supremely fluid.

My guess is Theo/Jed felt he was best hitter in the draft so they grabbed him. Weird shit happens (ex: psycopath 25 y/o former All-Star SS sucks ass) that would eventually open up a spot if he's for real. And if there isn't room then they can flip him for an arm.

I get the taking the best available talent that high in the draft, but somebody was always going to be the odd man out. And in today's offensively challenged game of baseball, I just find it hard to believe their first plan was going to be one of flipping him for an arm.

Who knows though, maybe that was the idea all along. I wonder what would have happened if Montero never gets hurt?

He would be playing Left field either here or in Iowa right now.

Schwarber has been respectable at C.

Which one of his Errors, Wild Pitches or Passed Balls is your favorite?

My personal favorite was last night, when he made a quarter hearted backhand attempt on a Clayton Richard pitch that eventually caused Richard's only run to score.

The worst qualified C FLD% in MLB this year is .986. Schwarber's is .964.

Out of all 88 players that have played Catcher this year, it is the second worst.

"Respectable"

I am not so sure about this, or at least the commissioner is not a fan of it. Also, that is a lot of salary that National League clubs will be adding to their payrolls. If it does come to be, it will be a battle.

Kyle # 2 Avg hit Velocity....behind Stanton.

Hawg won't believe you. He is still bringing up my "hard hit groundballs for Schwarber" comment daily and it has been 6 weeks.

I don't believe it because you didn't shove 2,349 stats down my throat.

Bryant needs some days off..I'd love to see him in center ... Baez gotta cone up ..Castro needs some days off . I don't see Bryant playing any third base 2 years from now ..n I don't see Schwarber playing catcher 2 years from now.. Why delay the inevitable?

The one amazing thing to me on that list is Braun, had no idea he would be that high.
