They're now pretending like they don't know what the "Core Four" was. Look, I'm sorry the "Core Four" turned out to be three busts and Nick Swisher. But I did tell you three years ago that when this core busted you'd just have new guys you touted as "the next big thing". It's been that way forever with the Cubs. I'm sure jimmypasta and THE INQUISITOR can remember when the "Core Four" consisted of Ken Hubbs, Glen Hobbie, Dick Drott, and Moe Drabowsky. Did you really think it was as easy as replacing your WASPy front office with a bunch of Jewish guys?

Who are "they" that you speak of?

Core four

Almora
Solar
Bryant
Rizzo

Rizzo and Bryant are All-Stars. Solar has been average and Almora a disappointment. No one was saying they were all going to be All-Stars. I am happy with the players Theo has drafted and traded for. Arrieta, Rizzo and Russell were absolute steals.

Just give it up already. Cubs are relevant again and Sox fans hate it.

Juiced,

Core Four=

Bryant - Disappointment? I guess as his hype was getting to MVP candidate as a rookie. Instead he's just accrued 3.5 WAR.
Soler - The struggle is real. However, we're talking about a cat in the major with less than 200 minor league games. He's being developed in the majors and not drowning.
Russell - stud. no worries.
Almora - well, Cubs fans were getting bitched at that you can't expect all prospects succeed. here's the guy so far.

I think fandom/websites in general just have more "much ado about nothing" conversation w/r/t all things Cub and Cub hysteria. So you get some of these dumb slogans and some of them wind up looking a bit silly.

Some are clever.

How's that Brew Crew Core 4 doing, Hawg?

Braun - Roids
Fielder - Gone
Bill Hall - Retired
Hart - 25th man on Pirates.

The point of the rebuild was exactly what you're describing. To always have a next big thing. So if you need to trade the young blood for an established player there's more young blood on the way.

So far The Plan™ is going great. The Cub in the thick of the Wild Card race in the toughest division in baseball.

Bill Hall, he was not part of that. Now Rickie Weeks would have been. All they got was 2 playoff appearances, disappointing. I know my Core 4 at least.

Why is it when the Cubs lose 100 games and the Sox win 90 and miss the playoffs Cub fans insist on equating the two teams as "both losers", but when the Cubs are a few games better than the Sox the Cubs are "promising" and the Sox "blow"? Wait 'til next year, Darkside.

The Cubs have so many prospects I think JORR gets confused and thinks we are limited to four. I didn't count Russell,Swartz as part of the "original core four" We should give the young guys a new name. Four is just too low of a number.

Tell the truth, Juiced, you're the guy who called in and said you were fine with Montero since the Cubs don't need a superstar at every position.

You're right. Fuck, it's Baez not Russell that was in the original Core Four. Oops.

10 over .500 and just half game out of the wildcard is not great? Is being 4 under with a dummy manager and a roster full of expensive washed up vets with the baseball intelligence of a peanut better?

I don't think so. If that's great the White Sox were one hell of a team from 1991 through 2004.

A few games? We are 10 games OVAH .500 and .05 games back of the WC..

You had a nice little streak against weak ass teams like BOS/CLE, but are on the way back toward the bottom of the AL where you belong. I still can't believe the idiots who run the Sox didn't trade Shark or anyone else for prospects. Not only did you not trade for prospects you gave up a pretty good player for him in Seimen. This team has K.William stench all over it.

Why not? Most Sox teams during that period were far better than the current Cub team.

Look, it's nice you finally have a watchable product after several years of purposeful losing.

JORR, different era. Could you imagine if Solar,Rizzo and Bryant were roided up. Sammy's HR record would be in jeopardy.

First, the Cubs are more than a few games better. Second, the Cubs are promising as they continue to improve. Third, the Sox blow because they are not improving.

Baez
Soler
Almora

Those were the original CORE FOUR. When Alcantara was killing it (those were the days...) he was trying to force his way in there.

Then Russell & Schwarber were added to the mix.
