He's getting worse behind the plate. At some point, they need to find either a) a true defensive catcher or b) one that can hit. Flowers is neither.

I watched him opening day not bring his arms to his side and let a pitch that would have been easily blocked go between his arm and body. Today, he doesn't get the glove down to the dirt and let's one slide through the 5 hole. Bad Bad Bad.

He's a statue back there. He can't move laterally and he can't get his fat ass down to block a ball in the dirt. I don't understand why the pitchers say they like throwing to him. He's absolutely horrible and getting worse.

The state of catching in MLB is poor. Looking at the fa market this year the choice was either to pay through the nose for questionable and aged talent or stick with what you have. Flowers is not in the bottom tier of starting catchers in the league, as bad as he is.

Flowers is a microcosim of the Sox entire organziation. Flowers came up in their system (yes, I know ATL Drafted him)...but a player than has mostly known the Sox, has become #FAMILY and they think he is great...."The Next Ron Karkovice" is the exact words muttered to me from ownership....

He isnt good. He is a below average catcher in every aspect. Been with the big club since 2009 and nothing but praise and how much he improved.

Funny, because some here often criticize other teams for promoting players they think will be good. Which might be true.

I still go back to one thing Jerry Angelo said "Scouting your own backyard it the toughest thing to do"....and he is right.

EVERYTHING the Sox do, they think is great and nobody will tell them different! Why? Because in 2005 it worked! Thats the answer to everything.

BigFan...good stuff.

Tyler Flowers is bad, but he's the least of your problems. Yes....catchers across the league are bad. They have other problems to fix before worrying about Flowers. He's not good, but they better Fix the other automatic outs, first.

I love Cubbie fans.

Tyler Flowers is bad, and an automatic out.

he is bad....and while not an Auto out...I would think by year 7 of his career it would evident, he isnt a starting catcher. And you can improve with Soto alone being the starting catcher.

The Cubs have had 4 catchers this year better than Flowers. Doesnt sound that hard to find one.

What is an automatic out?
flowers has a .258 OBP and a mere .217 BA. Beckham, Alexei, Sanchez keeping him company. Gillaspie was also there but he was dealt.

Those are BAD numbers and in my world and look like automatic outs.

Beckham...LOL...another one...

So you finalize realize how bad he is...in his 6th year and you trade him for A PLAYER TO BE NAMED LATER...

OK, It took you 5.5 years to determine his worthlessness...but at least the ties are broken...

BUT THEN AFTER LA WAIVED HIM.....YOU SIGN HIM AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!

The list of guys the Sox have resigned, signed at the end of a career...or just kept is baseball comedy!!!!!!!!!

Like it or not, this is now what the organzation is known for...and I think most of that is due to one guy that should be fired today.

Soto is so much better at everything baseball related than Tyler Flowers its an easy decision.

I can't argue....Gordon Beckham really is a great example of how poorly this organization is run. It was bad enough they held on and on and on with NOTING to show for it. Then....they bring him back only to expose how BARE the farm system is.

Back to my point. Flowers is bad but he's your catcher. You can live with one position player who struggles offensively but defends his position well. Sadly, you have to compare Flowers to TODAYS catchers. He's average defensively by comparison and awful at the plate. The problem is, it's easier to upgrade the other positions than it is catcher. Live with Flowers but for fucks sake, fix 3B, SS, 2B and the outfield.

Flowers is the least of our problems. 3 infield positions that can't hit is brutal.

Beckham, Alexei, Sanchez need to be solved before you worry about a bad catcher.
Not to mention, LaRoche hasn't even come close to his contract.

Flowers is bad but you fix the other stuff first.

Flowers is horrible. That's the first position they need to upgrade. The catcher position has been ignored for far too long.

They don't all stink. Believe me I get that it's a very demanding position but Flowers doesn't do anything well. He doesn't receive it well, he doesn't block it, he doesn't throw it, he doesn't call a good game, he doesn't hit and he doesn't hit for power. I'm not saying they have to find an MVP like Buster Posey or Yadier Molina but they have to find someone who can help them win games. Flowers is a liability at an extremely important position.

This.

He is not close to average at anything having to do with catching.
