This is a difficult call. Anything short of war and Iran will acquire nuclear weapons. Tough talk and threats are not going to prevent them from acquiring nuclear weapons.

The focus should have always been on Iran as they are the leading sponsor of world wide terrorism. There hands are in a number of pots. Its going to be difficult to stop them without going to war and I don't think the U.S. Govt or its people will support another war.

The Shah was also pro western. His pro Western stance was one of the main reasons that the people of Iran rose up in 79. The uprisings are the primary reason that the mullahs came to power. I think some of the pro western stuff is exaggerated. There was a lot of bad blood directed at America in 79 and it wasn't just the religious zealots either.
