We’ve written repeatedly about how opposition from the Republican Party establishment will ultimately make it difficult for Donald Trump to win the nomination, even if it helps him capitalize on anti-elite backlash in the short term. But Fox News — if it’s relationship with the GOP is more complicated than some observers might acknowledge — is a part of the Republican establishment too in many respects and is highly trusted by most Republicans. How it covers Trump will play an important role in how viable his campaign might remain over the next weeks and months, and if tonight is any indication, that coverage could be pretty tough.

They pulled the same move on Newt four yrs ago. It was shocking because he was one of Fox's very own at the time.

They will be the best barometer in determining whether Trump is electable. They got in bed with Romney even though he clearly was not their first or probably even their fifth choice because they believed he gave them the best chance to win.

They will do the same thing this time.

Trump has to be able to support the dumb shit that he typically says. He hasn't so far. At some point he is going to get called on it.

Apart from the character assassination of Trump, wasn't a bad debate at all. Better than I thought. Christie did come out swinging, and will probably see the biggest bump up in the polls. To me personally, he came across as a credible leader.

Trump didn't do badly, but some of his answers were not as polished as they could have been. Much of the things he said he repeated from his one-on-one interviews, but lacked specifics on policy.

But the guy I liked best was Ben Carson. Something special about that humble man. If you really listened to what he said, he completely destroyed Hillary Clinton and Obama. He called Hillary the progressive secular candidate, which is another way of saying she is the candidate for homosexuals and atheists, and he's right. And he demasked Obama with his Saul Alinsky reference and reference to Obama's divisiveness. While Cruz comes across a bit corny and affected as an intellectual, Carson responses were spoken like Abraham Lincoln. He should definitely gain in the polls too, if people are being open-minded about him.

Kaysn was ok, too, but lacked any wow factor. Having attended college in Ohio, I thought he came across as a conservative Ohioan, who is down to earth.

Bush was better than I thought he'd be. I just don't agree with him with his soft stance on immigration.

Then Carson is the candidate for fanatical theocrats, and I'm right.

The official motto of the U.S. since 1956 has been, "In God We Trust." With your comment, you're suggesting a break from that motto. Did you want to change the national anthem too?

Hard to believe this Country is in the red; with Walker, Paul Christie , Bush , and the Ohio guy all proudly proclaiming the balanced budgets ..huge job growth n big surplusses. In their states.

Trump had a lot of Chuy Garcia in em ..a lot of " its going to be great" we are going to beat China or Mexico..no real plan .

I thought Carson and Paul came off the best .

Trump keeping things entertaining.

Still do not think he will last, but I do really like his tax plan.

A total setup by @FrankLuntz and #FOXNEWSDEBATE to try to lower #Trump2016 high poll numbers. American people will not fall for your tricks.

I watched portions of the debate and found it somewhat interesting. Definitely too many candidates up there at once. Trump was
a lot of talk and bluster but short on real answers. He doesn't know much about politics in my opinion. Bush and Walker didn't
say anything too stupid but didn't come off strong either. Walkers answers were all canned and short. Kasich seemed solid but
maybe "too nice" of a guy? Rubio spoke well in my opinion but holy hell he has a set of ears on him, I couldn't stop staring at
them. They belong on a 90 yr old man. I thought Carson came across quite well from what I saw although he doesn't have the
political experience. I thought Paul came across ok and had some nice shots across the bow to Trump and Christie.

You commie fucks are a stitch. Trump has never declared bankruptcy. His companies filed, not him personally. But you go ahead and vote for the lesbian from Maine East who helps pay off her husband's sexual assault victims.

Huckabee doesn't stand a chance in hell of winning..likely Walker too for the same religious beliefs.

Cruz is a real penis, but seemed to do well last night.

I enjoyed Rubio the most.

It was hard for any person to stand out. Kasich is a good guy but looked nervous and awkard on stage, which is in direct contrast to how he acts in a one on one interview. I thought Rubio was solid and Jeb did ok.

I love the Rand/Christie exchanges. Both played well to their bases. Obviously, I like that Rand took a strong stand on Constitutional rights, meaning he would not allow the spies to run wild with domestic snooping.

Carly was the only person to stand out in the first debate.

Way too many people on stage to get a good feel for all the candidates. Trump was just dumb. He attacked two moderators.
