It would be nice if he could make a throw to second on a fly. Russell and Castro both made nice catches on short hops.

He was very good in his last two starts.

2 ER in 13.2 innings.

Maddon should decapitate him Highlander style on the mound.

Ross saved Lester's ass today from an out of control ump. It was kind of impressive, actually.

Well I'm certainly glad we gave him 20 million to have 4 wins and a 4 ERA at the break.

Lester and the pitcher that followed him today: 31 million dollars.

There was a Cubs fan that kept telling anyone that would listen that Shields would be a better option than Lester. Even JORR laughed at him and told him that he was wrong.

I think hindsight makes Scherzer the one we wanted.

Agreed a 1000%. Shields was cheaper and a better pitcher. The way Lester struggled at the end of last season, and then blowing the huge lead in the playoffs, you could see he was starting to lose his "A" game.

I don't need hindsight. I was right from the start. I don't like the Scherzer contract but he's been great. It would have been nice to have Archer.

Didn't want him either for that money but yeah I guess he'd be the better choice.

They didn't want Scherzer for the simple reason that he would cost them a pick. I hope John Dewaan is worth it.

Shields has a 3.74 ERA overall, but a 4.75 ERA away from Petco. Ouch.

Lester's ERA, ERA+, WHIP, and WAR are all better than Shields.

Nas was running his mouth about being correct in the off-season that Shields over Lester was a no brainer for Cubs management, and that they fucked up. Him blowing Addison Russell in another thread reminded me to bump this one, so Nas can admit to being wrong.

Jon Lester no longer sucks. Tough to admit but Ross has become alright. His cannon is valuable for Lester.

David Ross is off double-secret probation and only on probation.

Both guys are doing what they were brought here to do. Ross is a very good defensive catcher but against RHP,Montero is my guy down the stretch even with Lester pitching.

If being under .500 almost 3/4 of the way thru the season as a number 1 making 22 million a year is what he was brought in to do then yes he's been awesome .

For as well as Lester has been pitching the last few months, the fact every single/walk turns into a automatic double or triple will kill them in the playoffs if they get that far.

I'm starting to wonder why Lester's "yips" in throwing to first is basically a "taboo" subject for the reporters, broadcasters, and coaches. I was in the car listening yesterday as the Brewers "stole" four bases in one inning. Hughes & shit-bag Coomer were glossing it over and couching it with same ol' shit you hear about "fast to the plate"...and "results that matter"...yadda yadda yadda...

Len & Jim never say much either. I never really hear reporters ask or press a coach about it. I'd like to hear Brenly doing the broadcast during one of Lesters games...

I'm of the belief that if you put the guy on the mound during several practice sessions...and make him throw 50 consecutive throws/tosses to first...He'd get it. Steve Sax might say differently. I dont understand the yips....never have...never will. Throw the fucking ball to first...you weak minded bitch. A MLB player who can't even "play catch" is crazy to contemplate.

Go Cubs!

It's strange that no one ever mentioned Lester not throwing to first when he was in Boston. Then someone in the Chicago media wrote about it and now it's this big thing.

I think it's hard for someone who has never had that kind of mental block to understand it. I certainly can't imagine not being able to just pick up a ball and throw it wherever I want to. I have to believe the "thinking" is the thing. Instead of instinct and habit the guy's brain must start relying on analysis in a pressure situation in front of thousands of people. That's no way to throw a baseball. You can see that Geovany Soto has developed an elaborate ritual to work around his issue.
