I'm so glad he did the Chippendales skit. Chris Farley show and Matt Foley are faves too. I know all of what's coming and still laugh.

Made me sad for him and his friends at the end. Although I wondered how much drugs sandler has done. Spade always seemed pretty straight and narrow and fought with Farley about stuff.

I am going to assume Sandler just drinks and smokes down. Spade may have done some other stuff. It seemed that Farley was not just partying after the show....he was on all that shit all day long when he was using.

I could see that about Sandler.

I listened to a Spade interview, maybe on Stern? I got the feeling he wasn't big on drugs or having it interfere with work. I remember hearing something him and Farley fighting about it too. Spade knows he had to work, be on time, know lines, etc to be successful. He didn't want to not get called because of something unprofessional or being a pain to work with. It always makes me sad for him.

Celebrity net worth has him at 40 million so even if they're half wrong he's still doing all right. Don't be sad.

You can always make more money, you can't always find good friends. Hurts like hell to lose a friend no matter how much you have.

He's also one of the big notorious womanizers in Hollywood.

I don't get the impression that any of these guys partied with Chris....that he had some sketchy crew he would party with.

Adam Sandler = the white Tyler Perry, somehow makes a fuckton of cash cranking out the same shitty movie over and over.

Spade gets roasted a bit for his predilection for the latest blonde bimbo on the Hollywood scene:

Everyone has their moment when SNL "officially" died, but mine is when that snot-nosed kid started his first Weekend Update by thanking his bosses and saying how honored he was to be there. That shit makes Seth Meyers look edgy. Don't get me wrong, though, it was on life support for years before that.

I can't really pinpoint a moment. It was right around when Hartman and Farley left and were replaced with Ferrell , Kattan, and really unfunny women.

It was never as bad or good as anyone thinks. It's always been more or less the same; it's people's perspective that changes. Everyone's "glory years" coincidentally matches up with a certain age range. Ask anyone over the age of 80, and they'll tell you it was shit all along.

I guess. When it was first on it was pretty good, early 80s bad, mid 80s and early 90s good, bad after that. The people make the difference.

While I agree that we all remember the wheat and forget the chaff (especially when said chaff was edited out of the reruns we grew up with on Comedy Central), I don't think it's out of line to suggest that the late '80s-early '90s SNL was a cut above the rest of the show's run. Remember that Lorne Michaels purged the old Christopher Guest cast to bring in Hartman, Lovitz, Myers, et al, so in a way, it was kind of a new show unto itself with that bunch as opposed to the unbroken chain it's generally been since.

Exactly. There have been ebbs and flows for sure over the course of 40 years, but even back during the "original NRFPTP" era the revisionist history by some old farts is that it was the funniest back then, and hasn't been nearly as funny since; yet, to go back and watch some of those early shows, they had plenty of unfunny sketches and moments.

You know which other sketch comedy had lots of unfunny crap? Every sketch comedy show ever. It's the nature of the beast. Mr. Show sketches that bombed probably hurt the most of all.

Didn't realize Paxson moonlighted as an SNL producer.

I remember perusing the internet for details about Chris's last day and happened on a picture taken of him dead in his condo. I could have done without seeing that...

I remember a sketch where it was a Elton John fan club and everyone kept asking him what he was thinking when he wrote "Bennie And The Jets", "Crocodile Rock", or "Levon" and he keeps getting a little more upset every time and says something to the affect of "It's a lovely song, but my good friend Bernie Taupin wrote it, so you'd have to ask him." And then after that goes on for a while, they cut away to the Bernie Taupin fan club (which is funny because there are only like 3 people in the crowd) and someone asks what he was thinking when he wrote an early John hit called "Here's To The Next Time" and then he says, "I actually didn't write that song, Elton wrote it." and then they pull back to a shot of Farley dressed up in a hotel uniform and is talking to Chris Rock and says "I knew we should have booked this in the same room!" but I think it got cut from the final airing.

There's also one where the setup is this bar that is at the end of one of those runaway truck ramps off the interstate, and I forget who the guest was but he was the bartender, and then Farley comes in all in his truck driving getup and the bartender says, "The usual, Jimmy?" (or whatever his name was) and then Farley's like "Those god-damned brakes keep failing!" and throws his gloves on the ground -- absolutely hilarious but also cut.
