I know some people think a managers impact is over stated, but this series should have shown you something about a team and how their play is influenced by what a manager does.

The issue with Castro was done at a perfect time and was handled about as well as could be by a team and the player.

This 4 games is the kind of thing you need in the playoffs, a spark under everyones ass.

Of course, none of it means anything without talent to motivate and get to play better, which has happened.

I do agree with you. Maddon is awesome.
But when I talk about stuff like this the thought that really tickles me is that we'll want him gone at some point. Baseball managers half life is like 3 years

Maybe Maddon is the second coming but I find it hilarious. The fact that until this guy was rolled into town via tampering everyone said maybe a manager won or lost you 3 games a season. #cubbiesaredifferent

Managers do not matter just ask a certain Sox fan on this very board.

Mangers don't matter, until they do.

Maddon's managing of the pitching staff is maddening. I would say the same thing about all current managers. I fucking hate the modern pitching staff. It takes up two spots too many of the roster. Can't fight city hall, however. I'll give him props for sitting Castro. That move needed to be done. Essentially, he has benched Castro for Schwarber and that's just alright with me.

Joe is the best manager in history.

He's a genius until during the middle of the game the pitcher comes up with guys on base.

Then I think "what an asshole for batting the pitcher 8th"

I really appreciate how maddon and not bosio has directed the staff and that it hasn't been that pitching which has lead the club all year

Are you serious? There are guys on here that think it's a very clever move. It's fool's gold.

ONE MORE TIME: The worst hitter on the team should never bat closer to the heart of the order. That's why pitchers always bat last since 1876.

Maddon recognized Bosio's greatness and identified him as a key piece to this organization's turnaround.

The best leaders properly identify where they can delegate.

Not sure he recognized greatness, but he knew him and saw positive results, plus I am sure that issue was discussed with Theo and jed before he got there.

I do think he is very happy with Bosio and keeping him around.

Bosio is the best pitching coach in baseball now that Dave Duncan is done.

when he gets into the head of the closers, then I will declare great. He has done great work with the starters and I dont think there is any physical issues with the closers,

Do pitching coaches have win loss records? How vast is JORR's reach?

Those guys, after being "fixed", have an average ERA between them of high 3's? Not bad, for the four you've selected.

Since 2012, Bosio has 'helped / fixed':

Samardzija, Dempster, Maholm, Feldman, Wood, Arrieta, Hammel, Hendricks...

Several of those guys were unwanted veterans that Bosio made into great pieces that were able to be flipped for current contributors and prospects the Cubs and MLB covet. Russell, McKinney, Arrieta, Strop, Hendricks, Villanueva

Bosio has been a very large part of the success of the organization's rebuild. As significant as anyone.

I agree with you but you cannot be the one to say this based on your "junk pile" theories when KW acquires a pitcher and Cooper makes progress with him

Conventional wisdom is a manager is worth about 3-5 wins at most.

I think its really dumb to pigeon hole a set number of wins for a manager over a 162 game regular schedule ... Maddon has these guys playing loose n relaxed. . I think Quade has this team below .500 I think Ricky Renteria has em @ .500 maybe a game or so above .
