The is NO REASON to make a deal with them. All the past bullshit aside, their country was beginning to implode under the sanctions that they were forced to live under.
Watching a country in that part of the world implode left us with Afghanistan and now Syria, how's that working out for us all?
We gave plenty of help to Afghanistan in the 80's. More specifically, to Osama Bin Laden and his merry band of mercenaries.
Who appointed us the arbiter of other countries?
These countries would have ended up in similar states of disrepair without our help. And would have been forced to deal with the issues themselves, or come to us looking for help. Rather than us forcing our "help" upon them.
Bin Laden in Afghanistan? Overblown, more of a financier and tough talking guy looking for photo ops to build his brand. He wasnt even really aby sort of "leader," either. He really put no skin of his own on the table.
Anyways, the blowback in that country was mainly caused, in the end, by the giant vacuum created by US/Soviet power leaving. This lead to the Taliban,(that we know today), that was created by the ISI to gain power.
