Continue to go up even though oil prices are at a 7 year low.

This topic has been covered.

Gas station profit margins on gasoline are razor thin, when prices rise dramatically they even lose money on every gallon pumped.

It was also agreed upon that BP doesn't want half their refining capacity off-line and they would prefer not to lose money because of it. BP is also losing money on the other distillates that are refined from each barrel of oil.

I don't buy that. When oil prices rise the gas pumps immediately reflect that. When oil prices drop it takes weeks for the pumps to reflect the change. In this case they're raising prices for fuel they've already paid a lower price for.

It's so tough being a gas station owner that they are literally everywhere and sometimes three or four of them are right next to each other.

So BP raises their prices because their production is down?
Why do Shell, Mobil and the rest get to raise their prices as well?

Where did I say "Gas prices are razor thin?" That doesn't even make any sense.

Gas stations don't make much dough on gasoline..they clean up on all the merchandise inside. They also have to pay upfront for gasoline tanker deliveries. OPEC is the slime that control prices.

There aren't enough doritos being sold for there to be 4 gas stations within 2 blocks.

They aren't anywhere close to substantial (and even then substantial can mean a lot of things) unless wholesale gasoline prices are low, when those prices rise high enough those gas stations break even or lose money. It's a volume business. So this spike doesn't benefit the gas station nor does it benefit BP. So who does it benefit?

I get that the implication of this thread is to say that BP is screwing everyone over and all that but that theory doesn't really hold water.

That refinery fills many companies tankers. The tankers go to the refinery with their mix of special crap already in and get raw gas to bring to their respective stations. As I was told...

Because you say so? You have to do better than that. Even in poor areas of Chicago you're always a few blocks from multiple gas stations. They're making more than $.10 a gallon. If they were we wouldn't have as many gas stations.

Not enough money in those things for these gas stations to stay open. Beyond cigarettes they aren't selling many units of those marked up items.

No, because widely available information says so, champ.

When prices are low:

When prices are high:

A mix of high and low:

I'd say razor thin all the way up to thin.

I don't think you're talking out of your rectum and anal sphincter but you're acting like gas stations make a killing and have fat margins on gasoline when the price of gasoline spikes. It's actually the opposite. Lower prices = fatter margins, higher prices = razor thin margins or taking a loss on gasoline.

Again, the implication and tone of this thread is that "It's Bullshit" that prices spike when 50% of a major refineries production goes offline and that it's all a grand conspiracy. It isn't.

Sure there is ...spend 10 minutes in one n observe the constant cash flow ... Candy, gum , blunts, soda, slurpees, water , quart of oil etc... It adds up when you are buying wholesale n marking it up 75-100% ...the owners get a piece of substantial winning lotto as well.. There's money to be made , that's why they are all over n rarely go under ..but they just ain't making much on gas...I would guess less than ten cents a gallon.
