Remember the off season of targeting either Anibal Snachez or Edwin Jackson as the first piece of the puzzle?

I know it soon devolved to "who cares, he eats innings and is not going to be here when he is good".

The off day should help recharge their batteries and be ready to lay the smack down on a downtrodden Tigers squad. It would be nice to see Hammel get past the 5th inning again and for Maddon to give him the opportunity to pitch out of trouble. Not sure why there seems to be such a lack of confidence in Hammel by the good skipper.

right, if your initial strategy doesn't work then you adjust your plan.

that's how you end up 18 over instead of 6 under.

You are half right. They targeted Sanchez but didn't get him and then settled on Jackson instead of saving the money for a more worthy candidate. They have not made many glaring mistakes, but that is one that stands out. I hated the idea of that signing before it transpired and am not at all surprised it didn't work out. But every organization misses once in a while. A lot more hits than misses for this team since Theo arrived.

Sanchez would be much better in the N.L.

Kyuji Fujikawa was a bad signing too.

Chicago Cubs
2013

On December 2, 2012, Fujikawa agreed to terms on a two-year contract with a vesting option for a third year with the Chicago Cubs.[17] He struggled early on in the season, allowing six earned runs in 6.1 innings pitched. This led to him spending time on the disabled list due to an arm injury. He returned to the Cubs roster on May 10, but on May 27, Fujikawa suffered an elbow injury in the 9th inning in a game against the Cincinnati Reds. An MRI revealed that there was a ruptured UCL in his right elbow, knocking Fujikawa out for the season. He underwent Tommy John surgery on June 11, and missed the start of the 2014 season.
Texas Rangers

On December 12, 2014, Fujikawa agreed to a one-year deal with the Texas Rangers.[18] He was released on May 22, 2015.[19]

Because he would be playing for the Cubs and have the best pitching coach in baseball.

the thing is that vlad wasn't a power hitter so he stalled at 447HR and just short of 1500RBI (~1497).... prolly even 2000 hits too.... but yeah by the time pujols and migcab joined the fray and manny was doing his thing there's a reason vlad used to have the title "the best kept secret in baseball"

obviously i'm biased, and its hard to knock migcab who prior to this season (his first trip to the DL for ~6 weeks) his worst season was like .304/34/107.... so if that's the low end of what you bring to the table every year for 10+ years welp, holy hell, some will say migcab is in the convo for best RH hitters of all-time.

Tonight is an ABC 7 game. So get ready to watch it on a split screen as the potential for tornadoes will be a threat all night. Don't bitch. Cuz you know it's gonna happen. WE NEED TAFT AND SCOTT on nights like this!!!! Screw your Cubs. Safety is what matters.

Cheryl has her typical tight dress on. So enjoy that all night.

Channel 7 games are the pits. Spreading local games over five channels is really stupid. I just close my eyes and think of the monetization.

Long half inning to start the game. No way it goes 5 before the rain comes. It won't be an official game so you might as well not pull the starter. Let him suffer as the stats won't count anyway. No reason to tax a bullpen guy.

Boneheaded play by Fowler. Should be tied. Cubs will now lose 3-2 when the game is washed out after 6.

Don't worry, Hammel, only 6 more hitters til the pitcher's spot comes up again.

Hammel struggles but eventually out-duels the feared slugger Anibal Sanchez, who has had 12 PA in the last 3 years.
