I think Rizzo is a better hitter at this point, but Schwarber can become what Rizzo does. Has the power and has a more natural compact swing, Rizzo had to create that and it probably doesnt have the same power Schwarber does from that compact swing.

But does that mean then nas is saying Schwarber will be far better than Abreu?

He looks great but I think it would be wise to wait for the league to adjust to him to judge him. As long as he can make the adjustment back, he should be real good.

You don't think they've been trying?

It ususally takes longer than 35 games. Once pitchers start seeing him a second time or a bit of book on how to pitch him develops. Maybe he'll keep raking. Hope he does but lots of guys have come in and hit a ton and then struggled.

Obviously a totally different type of situation but just for comparison's sake, Bryan LaHair was hitting .365 with 9 Homers in his first 35 games in 2012

The cautionary tale is that portly ginger 1B for the Tigers a few years ago who came in and lit it up for a couple of months, never to be heard from again

No such silly notions are to be applied to these Cubs sure-fire All-Star/HoF prospects, regardless of the sample size.

If they suck and strike-out an immense amount of times and get sent back down to minor league ball they are just "getting it straight" and "will be fine."

If they are simply below average, don't have a position to play and missed the hype by 35 country miles they are still "fine" and "legit" and you shouldn't worry.

If they do good but the sample size is small then they are "legit" and there are no worries. Zero.

Please, get with the times.

Javier Baez may be the best of the bunch still. Having his best year in the minors.

Don't reply to me. I just gave them the name of the player they were trying to think of.

I don't think Schwarber will maintain a career 1.000 OPS.

You told him not to reply to you and then refuted his point

I'm not comparing Chris Shelton and Kyle Schwarber.

If Nas' point is that Schwarber will be a career 1.000 OPS hitter, Nas needs to stop himself.

That wasn't my point. Shelton's hot start (in back to back seasons IIRC) can't be compared to Schwarber. There isn't a baseball guy around that didn't expect Schwarber to have success with the bat. His only issue was being a below average catcher. Shelton's success was a surprise to everyone.

Why the '69 Cubs still matter

Today is the 46th anniversary of the Cubs division-clinching win in 1969, or at least what we presumed at the time was the unofficial clincher -- a game that cemented our feeling that this actually was “The Year" we always heard about.

i know you aint dissin babe shelton. indeed, babe shelton was the first ballplayer i gave that nickname to during his emergence in the mid2000s, but then he didnt even end up having as long of a potentially-!!!! phase as kevin freaking mench.

that said, like i said earlier it's en vogue right now to find some obscure/ish usually-oldtime catcher who came up and hit like !!!!! but then petered out and became serviceable-at-best for the rest of his career, and i think schwarber is better than that. the way the guy just showed up and started mashing, took his auto-demotion in stride, then came back and was even mashing more? yikes.

i remember at ~100ABs he was like .303/7/23 and then i check yesterday hes like .310/8/27 in ~112 ABs and then i see last night he has another HR/3RBI, so hes gotta have like 115-120 at bats of .310/9/30? the kid can hit. i dont care how many times terry boers tells me he's an AL player, you find a way to keep that stick in your lineup front and center until he proves he's not what he sure as hell looks like he is. plus imagine if he puts in work on that body and we havent even seen the kid with his MLB body yet? he might still have a notch or two of getting better!

me and nas are biased tho cuz i traded 4 schwarber in the league i run and nas paid like $21500 (starting with $10k) in his sandlot league. fortunately for nas he wasnt shortsighted enough like the guy in my league to dump off schwarber after the first promotion for lance mccullers + whatever (idk if i can give up on my degrom/syndergaard/matz triumverate tho)

I think that you all are losing sight of the fact that Kyle Schwarber is merely nothing more that a big fat piece of shit!

BABE shelton, on the other hand, evidently had some issues.

While he's doing better right now in his first time around the league, my high-end expectation for Schwarber is Brian Downing with a better BA and a little more power, but less walks so similar OBP.

Before you crap that that's too low, Downing figured out how to hit much later than Schwarber, but played in 20 different seasons. 53 bWAR offense for those of you who like more advanced metrics.
