No. I don't. That is why I am asking!

Why did your client lose a contract because they didn't pay their employees enough?

My client lost a contract because they could not offer an hourly wage that was competitive with Amazon's rate in that market.

He's asking why the third party consumer was concerned about the rate that was being paid to employees by the bidders, assuming your client was paying at least the minimum wage.

They are warehouse employees being paid 5.50 an hour above minimum wage. Amazon pays 7.50 above minimum wage in that market. And the market is Indianapolis.

You really don't know how this works.

So...if a person can only afford to pay $12.90 an hour, and Amazon can afford to pay $14.90, then chances are you won't be able to fulfill your duties because the workers who have no power at all, went to work for Amazon.

Is that easier for you to understand?

Well, that is at least an explanation. Your phrasing was bizarre in that case.

So your client can't find workers, because they are going to Amazon, and therefore they lost a contract with another business because of their inability to do solid work.

Sounds like your client is bad at business.

Probably wouldn't necessarily go back to 1912 but there are some alarming trends that can be traced to the decline of unions.

my grandpa once told me that the decline of american industry can be traced to unions! if you want a crappy job done call up a union! so let's debunk these:

1. People in the U.S. are working more now than they ever have yet wages have remained stagnant.

why do you hate success? the market decides what people are worth, not the companies, and seeing as china and/or foreign countries are an increasingly attractive offer to desperate corporations who just wanna live to see tomorrow (like you and me) you should be more understanding that these companies are doing whatever they gotta do to keep these jobs in america. why do you hate america? why do you think that joe 6-pack should get more beer/weed money from his job when doing so likely means that the company is going to have to relocate to china to stay alive? if you think wages are low because corporations are profiteering dickheads well then i think you need a crash course in how the market works.

2. Poverty is at an epidemic level.

then tell all those idiots out there to stop spending their $$$ on drugs and alcohol. last i checked civilization as we know it wouldn't exist if everyone wasn't making enough $$$ to be out of poverty, and last i checked civilization is here and fine, so why don't those "poverty riddled" people put down the pipe and pick up a responsible financial plan for their future? poverty, no matter how many bleeding hart libtards wanna claim otherwise, is a personal decision made by people who consistently make bad decisions in life. should you and i be responsible for giving these leeches extra $$$ to "bail out" their bad decisions? hell no! not to mention that you find out about people's REAL CHARACTER when they're struggling, so people who remain below the poverty line/level for extended periods of time have shown you their (lack of) character in that they've decided to remain impoverished when america is LITERALLY the land of opportunity for people to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and make something of themselves. if these people wanna get out of poverty they have to make some hard (for them) GOOD decisions on how to live a more virtuous life and when they do that (usually = they got off of drugs) then watch in amazement as they finally "escape" poverty.

3. The number of people that earn a livable wage from their labor is decreasing.

again, what is "living" to you? is one of your inalienable rights a few bags of 60-120 weed every week? again, learn how to live like the rest of us do and stop crying about some "liveable wage" because last i checked homeless people don't immediately die once they first hit the streets (and i wish they did because that would make life better for the rest of us good upstanding people) and they continue to live with NO WAGES, so then where is all this bullshit about a "liveable wage" coming from? the market decides what people are worth, and if they don't have the almighty "Liveable Wage" then what's stopping them from getting another job or 2? back to inalienable rights, is there an inalienable right in the constitution that says you get at least 5-8hrs/day of free time? if you have to work multiple shitty jobs to afford your cadillacs, caviar, and crack then maybe you should TAKE SOME RESPONSIBILITY FOR ONCE IN YOUR PATHETIC SO-CALLED EXISTENCE and remember all those times at school you were cracking jokes or not paying attention, or maybe those nights you had to watch 3 more spisodes of frasier as opposed to STUDYING YOUR SUBJECTS and you would have done better in school, gotten a scholarship, went to college, and ultimately gotten a better job with more $$$. again, its not our fault or problem that you slacked off and now want to live a life like all the people who EARNED IT THE RIGHT WAY, but instead its WAAAHHH I DONT HAVE A LIVEABLE WAGE..... well hey buddy are you dead? no? do you get any wages? yes? congrats you now have a "Liveable Wage" by the lowest common denominator definition possible.

4. The number of people that work 2 and 3 jobs just to earn ends meet is growing

...so people stop being lazy entitled leeches looking for a handout and this is somehow a BAD THING? how does that work? last i checked stats like this show that people are starting to take more responsibility and INITIATIVE for their lives and that, not some free time to sit on your ass and watch reruns of frasier, is what we call "making good decisions in life." --- AGAIN: WHERE DOES IT SAY IN THE CONSTITUTION THAT PEOPLE ARE ENTITLED TO 5+ HOURS OF "FREE TIME" EVERY DAY? smh..... just smh.

5. The transition from manufacturing to financials has generated 24 million fewer jobs. Service jobs generated as a result of this transition pay much less than the manufacturing jobs that they supplanted.[/quote]

perhaps if everyone wasn't looking for their cadillacs caviar and crack for the last 30-40 years and had $$$ to support the economy it wouldnt have ended up in such dire straits where all of the manufacturing jobs had to go to china in order to stay competitive. last i checked an economy is a reflection of the people in it, and if the economy changes in such a way where the only way for the job-providers to stay alive by putting food on their own plates is to move to china, that's a sad reflection on the USA economy.... perhaps if all the lower-to-middle classes actually SPENT $$$ instead of hoarding all of it and keeping it out of the economy then perhaps conditions wouldn't have changed to where manufacturing had to close up and/or move to china in order to stay in business. it's not like there was some "revolution" in the 80s where tariffs (taxes on imported goods meant to protect a domestic economy) were lowered from ~30% (where they hung around since the civil war) to ~2% and this was accompanied by a shift in the mindset of the CEOs/executives of a company being far more important/valuable to a company than its workforce, therefore those execs get anywhere from 10-100+ times (relative to the $$$ earned by the average worker) the financial compensation that enable them to make tens to hundreds of millions of dollars. in fact if you ever heard anything like that its all lies cooked up by the libtarded media..... everyone is struggling out there. this is very real... and given how horrible the american people have been to their economy since ~1980 or thereabouts, we should be thankful there's ANY jobs left and take them with haste because seriously, we ar an ungrateful lot who needs to thank corporate america for what we have, not to bitch at them for what we don't have.

----

so yeah, in conclusion america is filled with the most whiny entitled and downright CANCEROUS people on the earth who go around demanding that corporations giftwrap the american dream and hand it to them because they have some liberal arts degree from a community college. thats not the way that the world works. thanks to all of these toxic unions showing up and making america a horrible place to start/run/have a business over the last ~30-40 years, we're now starting to see the endgame of the unions here as they've utterly raped and pillaged industry to the point where it has to run off to china in order to stay alive, and instead of "thanks for going out of your way to give us all of these $10/hr-tops service jobs so we at least have a way to earn $$$ with dignity" we get all this crap about liveable wages, 2-3 jobs, and record corporate profits..... which all can basically be boiled down to people being jealous of successful CEOs who fought and scraped for every penny they earned over the years. its not my fault that CEOs work harder and quite frankly better than rank-n-file workers and earn a more significant financial compensation than joe-6-pack on the line/docks/etc... and quite frankly this "war on success" is a scary thing because the american populace has been declining/devolving and increasingly taking out THEIR FAILINGS on successful people to the point that we're basically staring down communism from our government/powers-that-be. that wouldnt be happening if the people didnt call for it.... and why do people call for it? because they're (born?) losers who cant compete in a sink or swim capitalist marketplace.

and instead of learning to swim they'd rather go and beg their commie overlords to put laws on the books that outlaw lakes/rivers/oceans/bodies-of-water. c'est la fucking vie, no?

can i get a hell yeah? BRick? scorehead? where my fellow WINNERS at?

biggie i know you're not rolling your eyes at me cuz you too are one of us over here on #TeamSuccess and definitely NOT one of those hippies over on team #MyProblemsAreYourProblem.

i swear to god this is the ONLY time in life i wish everyone could smoke a bowl of potent marijuana just so they could get grandiose-stoned and go walk over to their nearest gas-station/convenience store and pick up a pastry, cuz then as they do that while being grandiose-stoned they might stop and think about how many things have to happen from cultivating/processing/packing/shipping raw materials to the pastry company to make the pastry, which is then packaged and shipped all over the area/region/country via truckers and then stocked by stockboys/shop-workers and then sold to you for a measly few pieces of green paper.

if you stopped and realized just how vast expansive and truly AWESOME life is nowadays to make it so easy for you to waddle over to the corner store and pick up a cheese danish, maybe then all these people would stop bitching at THE REAL VICTIMS, aka the corporations, because they're simply not mortgaging their future to go out of their way and giftwrap that american dream to hand it to all of their workers like la dee frickin dah. in the year of our lorde 2015 you have the results of mass-industry making our lives as convenient and EASY as they've ever been. yet all people do is bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch about what they DON'T HAVE as opposed to being genuinely appreciative of what they DO HAVE.

i swear to god we're all horrible hedonists at our core.... and i'm sure people would blame society/media/culture for that like there's a "they" who decide what said culture should be as opposed to US making the decisions of what culture we want by consuming it in #s. for shame, america.... for shame. may god have mercy on your hedonist souls!

Sini, I am the first one to agree that the gap in society is greater than ever.

For me to make my point brings out the Obama ALS...and I just dont want to hear what a great job he has done.

Sini remember your batch of markets the next time the Fed has to provide a fresh batch of "quantatative easing". I want to see how much market dictation will be at work once this occurs. It's going to happen again. Trust me.

There are laws on the books as mentioned but also there is an accepted level people as to what is right for lack of a better term. People and companies for the most part know what works and doesn't for them. Most people would not accept a 100 hour a week job or let their 12 year old work regardless of need. Companies, outside of Amazon apparently, spend money and resources to do things that have nothing to do with greed all the time. Times are simply different and to think we are about to be on a slippery slope to the beginning of the last century is silly.

We wouldn't go back to 1912 overnight, true. But capitalism will seek a way to increase profits and if that means moving a factory to a place where slave labor is legal or calling a guy an "associate" and putting him on salary to circumvent OT laws and work him 90 hours a week, that's what will happen and what has happened.

You can't lament the loss of blue collar jobs without examining this as a whole.

What company requires salaried employees to work 90 hours each week?

Who the hell would stay in a job like that?

We wouldn't go back to 1912 overnight, true. But capitalism will seek a way to increase profits and if that means moving a factory to a place where slave labor is legal or calling a guy an "associate" and putting him on salary to circumvent OT laws and work him 90 hours a week, that's what will happen and what has happened.

You can't lament the loss of blue collar jobs without examining this as a whole.

What company requires salaried employees to work 90 hours each week?

Imaginary ones?

Many investment firms have hellish hours like that. My brother did hours like that as a consultant. It exists.

Things exist outside of your personal experience.

(I dont mean to be a jerk, but its like if something isnt right in front of you, you assume it doesnt exist. You're smarter than that.)

As RPB stated it's the expectation in investment banking, private equity and such. Accountants during tax season also put in those types of hours.

They are well compensated salary & bonus wise but when you calculate per hour it's alright.

Most tech companies in Silicon Valley.

I had a job interview for a company I thought was fairly normal where the Vice President told me "The only person that leaves here at 5 o'clock is the secretary. Before you come back for a second interview let me know if that doesn't work for you."

He did explain though that the workers here love being at work, which seems like something you tell your boss when he comes in and says "What do you think about working here?" and you want to keep your job.

A lot of those types of jobs/companies have happy people doing that stuff. They make a ton of dough and get perks up the ass. Want to be at work all day? Sure, they have child care, fitness clubs, 5 star cafeterias and all kinds of crap.

You didn't even know that Amazon workers had it tough and many were unhappy at the start of this thread, and now you are an expert on the other perks they get?

Get off my ass jagoff and go fuck with someone else. I have heard of things/perks silicon valley type jobs were getting plenty. My post said nothing about Amazon which is in Seattle by the way. Go back to your semi booard retirement you pain in the fucking ass. Other than that good morning.

I may be working 35 unpaid hours a week but at least the cafeteria has steak tacos!

Thanks for the geography lesson. I guess Amazon isn't a "silicon valley type job".

Though, I do question why you are accepting the anecdotal evidence of people who claim they are happy, but you ignore the anecdotal evidence of unhappiness.
